The day that changed America

October 9th, 2009 by Angela | Filed under Ramblings.

This is the first great conservative anti-statist manifestation in American history. The conservative movement, which developed in the post-WWII, Cold War environment has now fully matured into the most significant political movement of the 21st century. I believe that this day could be referred to in the not too distant future as the day that changed America. This was the day the great silent conservative majority finally found its voice.

Many of the attendees were quite meek and timid and were unsure of exactly what to expect, this being the first time in their lives they’d been involved in a protest movement. Their fears evaporated early in the day and I saw people reveling in the camaraderie, the joy and sheer civility that was exhibited at the entire event. Chants of “Freedom, freedom, freedom”, “No more czars! No more czars!” carried through the air without the slightest hint of rancor or incivility which is the norm at the leftist rallies I have photographed over the years.

The two photos, the one above and this one, show a tiny fraction of the two million ABC estimates attended. I saw signs and heard lots of comments comparing this event to Woodstock. At the time this photo was taken, around 1:00 p.m., Pennsylvania Avenue was still jammed completely, and the mall was packed from the Capitol Building past the Washington Monument.

Stay tuned … more pictures to come.

What news station covered this???

Let me ask you something. Do you ever get your facts straight, or do you intentionally mislead people? First off, ABC never reported that there were two million people at the march, neither did CNN, CBS, or NBC. NONE OF THESE NEWS AGENCIES REPORTED THIS. Got it? Okay. The highest estimate I have seen for the crowd was around 70,000, and the lowest estimate I have seen is around 40,000. So somewhere in that range is where the truth probably lies. And you know what, those are not bad numbers at all, I believe. Those folks should be pround that so many showed up for this event. But please, drop the two million nonsense, okay, because that is exactly what it is- nonsense.

Really, do yourself a favor and try researching a bit of this BS instead of just passing along all the lies. It would do wonders for what little bit of creditiblity you have.

Let me ask YOU something Kathy … can you ever have a conversation OR discussion with somebody without being so MEAN?

The FACT is that tens of thousands of people marched on 9.12.2009 in Washington D.C. 1 Million, 2 Million, .. who cares what the exact number was?

Nothing changes the fact that people in this country are pissed off at the direction we are going .. nowhere fast.

Hundreds and thousands of people are upset with Barack Obama, upset with Capitol Hill, upset that our nation’s Constitution is being trampled on. Upset that a bunch of big wigs want to tax and spend on things that we can’t afford. Did you know they are talking about a 2nd stimulus package?

I don’t have to drop anything! As I said … tens of thousands of people showed up to protest. 1 Million … 2 Million … who cares? The number of people doesn’t change the determination of the rest of the nation that was there in spirit.

Seriously Kathy … why are you such a mean person? Why are you so angry and evil about everything?

  3. Kathy says:

Well, let’s start with why I am so angry. Perhaps it is because of people like you who want to change the agenda in this country based on a mountain of lies, but hey, like you said, WHO CARES about the truth?

Here is how this lie started. During the rally, Matt Kibbe of Freedom Works took the rally stage and proclaimed that ABC had just reported the crowd size at 1 million to 1.5 million. Immediately, that lie was posted on blogs and tweeted all over, with Michelle Malkin posting that the the crowd was estimated to be in the 2 million range. And on and on it went, until the lie took on a life of it’s own and soon it was being posted on almost every conservative webstite and blog you can think of.

ABC would later issue a statmennt categorically denying the story and asked for proof from Kibbe. He could not present that truth, and in reality, would later retract the statement and say that it was just a mistake and a misunderstanding on his part.

This is the problem. There are so many in this movement who base their beliefs on a set of lies? Why? Is their position that weak that they have to base their ideas on lies? For anyone who is against health care reform or any other type of programs sponsored by Obama, fine, but base those arguments on sound ideas and principles, not lies.

You know what? Slowly, but surely, the tide is turning against you wackos by serious minded conservatives who are starting to realize that this movement is hurting their cause more than helping it. All of the lies, all of the hate and fear mongering, all of the scare tactics used against the most helpless- you people should be ashamed.

This is what makes me angry. It is unfortunate that it does not make you angry. Instead, you enjoy it, you celebrate it, you embrace it….

Oh and one last thing, you kept asking, who cares? I can answer that. It is you and those who think like you who do not care about the truth.

But you know what, Anglea, a lot of us do care about the truth.

  4. Angela says:

You care about the truth so much that you are willing to debate the exact number of the tens of thousands that showed up for the rally because debating the exact number is more important to you than debating the issues and the reasons why these people were in Washington D.C. to protest in the first place.

You have been nothing but nasty to me and the people that you refer to as “wackos” … you talk about “hate” and “fear mongering” … please spare me Kathy.

Why don’t you start doing what you say you are going to do. You said you were going to stop commenting over on BlogMommas.com so then you turn around and hunt me down over here on Domestic Divapalooza. If this pisses you off so much why aren’t you blogging about it over on your blog?

I don’t mind you discussing with me and those that are participating in these discussions but you’ve been downright rude. If we’re such “wackos” or I’m such a “wacko” then why do you care so much?

Please keep your promises and leave. Go tell somebody that cares because I don’t care what you have to say if you are going to line it with me being a “wacko.”

  5. Kathy says:

There is a huge difference in “tens of thousands” and millions of people. You miss the point, and my guess, is that you miss the point on purpose.

And the point is, truth and credibility.

If these morons will lie about this, then what else will they lie about?

Okay, Anglea, you win. I will leave you alone and you can go back to your fantasy world where all of your friends agree with you and every thing is just hunky dory. It is a world of ignorance and intolerance. I don’t think I have posted this video before on your blog, but here, have a taste of those who think like you. This is your world. This is your reality. This is the rest of the country’s nightmare….

  6. Angela says:

The point is Kathy I don’t care if it was several hundred, tens of thousands, 1 million, 2 million or 50 zillion. It’s the issues that these people were protesting that matter to me the most.

There you go again ending your rant on a negative note. Being cruel and ugly towards me. If I’m such a “wacko” why do you waste your time? Never mind, don’t answer that because I DON’T CARE FOR YOU TO ANSWER.

You know every walk of life was at the rally on 9.12.2009. Even ACORN was there … so please don’t insult me with your YouTube link.

  7. Angela says:

I’ve thought about this weirdness with you Kathy and I really do feel bad for you. I don’t understand where your hatred of me comes from. I have not done anything to you. I think we could have had some interesting discussions if it weren’t for your name calling and all around nastiness toward me. It’s like something inside of you snapped. You don’t know me. You don’t know what kind of person I am. You have no idea where I’ve come from, who I am, what I believe… yet your hatred continues to permeate and linger. I don’t get it. I do think it’s sad.

  8. Becki says:

I’m still praying for you Kathy.
