STD funding via the Economic Recovery Bill?

STD education, STD testing, and STD prevention is a topic that is near and dear to me and for so many important reasons. I got an e-mail today from the President and CEO of the American Social Health Association. For those of you that don’t know what that is, we call it ASHA and here is an overview of what ASHA is all about.

I shared the e-mail for two reasons: 1.) the subject matter is important and 2.) I wanted to voice my opinion on this part of the economic recovery bill.

While STD screening, STD prevention, and STD treatment is an important cause, I do not believe there is a place for this cause inside of the economic recovery bill. In fact, there are lots of great and wonderful causes out there.. BUT this is an economic recovery bill.

I have been against these stimulus plans since day #1. Our government should have Never sent out those stimulus checks last year, bailed out our financial institutions, nor should they be considering this soon-to-be trillion dollar spending package.

All the “great” and “wonderful” causes out there are attempting to squeak by as something that can Not be left out of this mess. We’ve already bailed out our financial institutions (that wasn’t enough), the abortion industry wants a bailout, the porn industry wants a bailout, Hollywood wants a bailout, and while this is a noble and worthy cause, the CDC wants in on the bailout too.

When does it end?

There is no place right now for all the wonderful and worthy causes as most of them will not and do not stimulate the economy. Focusing in on health issues is not going to generate jobs in all sectors. You want to generate jobs in most sectors? Lower the business taxes, adjust the pay scales, and make hiring folks something that businesses and organizations will be able to do on their own. Temporarily cutting back hours so people can keep their jobs is another idea. Get rid of out-sourced positions, etc. There are so many things that we can do to ride out this economic road-bump.

These so-called economic stimulus/recovery bills are a JOKE. Spending our way out of economic turmoil is Not the answer! Providing funds for worthy causes should not have any part of this process.This process should not even be on the table. The government needs to Butt OUT of our economy and allow the economy to come back on its own. We do Not need to put this country into further debt in my honest opinion.
