It started yesterday at church. I heard from my MIL that Sarah Palin would be in town to speak at a rally at the Civic Center. After we got home and put the kids to bed I geared up and headed down there.
Don had a paper to write, the kids were napping, Lauren was running errands, so I went by myself. I paid $6.00 to park up on 19th street and walked the rest of the way.
I wound up walking down towards 17th street because they had decided to hold the rally inside of the music auditorium. I think I probably stood in line for a couple of hours because I left the house at 3:00 and the doors did not open until 4:00 PM.
While I was waiting in line I got the opportunity to listen to Sarah Palin protesters. I don’t really think they knew what they were talking about and it was pretty clear at the police not been there, some may have moved across the street to try and pick a fight.
They were angry, yelling and pretty ticked off actually. There was one gal that was holding up a sign that said “I Love Biden” and all I could think of was “You Love a Liar.” For as many people that showed up to see Sarah Palin, there were only a handful of protesters. Whatever!?
The Grandma and Grand-daughter routine cracked me up. I asked if I could take a picture of them holding their signs and they were more than happy to pose for the camera. I agree with what their signs say because the Barack Obama and Joe Biden team is certainly a bunch of “BS” for sure!
The news cameras were down there interviewing us and watching all the ranting going on. Everybody time a protester would start screaming we’d chime in “Sarah.. Sarah.. Sarah.” I actuallly should have had my daughter round up all the cheer leaders from Northwest. Too bad she had errands to run.
The four that you see in picture #6 I met while standing in line. By the time we got through all the medal detectors we were ushered into the auditorium. All 5 of us sat together in the same row. I sported my “Support the Troops” t-shirt that I’ve had since the 2nd conflict in Iraq.
There were signs everywhere! There were slogans on both sides so no matter how you held them up somebody in the place would see what your sign had to say. It was pretty cool actually.
All the Republican local and state representatives where there including the former mayor. I enjoyed the “Country First” banner that was on the stage. It was interesting watching all the people have to stand for a couple of hours while we waited for Sarah Palin to arrive. I’m guessing the people that made it to the stage were all the “Whose Who of Omaha” who had connections.
I got a little teary-eyed when Sarah Palin mentioned the Vets in her speech. It was nice to see all the veterans that were sitting around me honored.
She asked them if they would stand and raise their hands so we could thank them for their service. It seems to make all the veterans in the crowd proud because they beamed when she mentioned them.
It made me also think of my Father and all those years of his life that he gave to the military in service of our country. It was a touching moment.
Before Sarah Palin showed up we sang our National Anthem and said the Pledge of Allegiance. The crowd was thick with Secret Service Agents.
The reporters seemed to be a bit bored waiting for Sarah to arrive. It’s a good thing I left the house when I did because I think if I would have arrived to wait in line down there later, I would have never made it on to the main floor.
Those that didn’t make it to the main floor were ushered into the balcony. I sat 9 rows back. I didn’t have a chance to shake her hand but I did wait until she left to head home.
Her speech was AWESOME! She talked about everything that you’ve heard her speak of on television AND more!
She even told us how frustrated she was with some in the media that had been asking her silly questions instead of asking her about what her and John McCain’s plans were for Washington. She said something about having to feed Tina Fey of Saturday Night Live (SNL) more material and how that was great job security for SNL.
There were a couple of things that she touched on that I knew about but had not seen her mention before.. at least not until that night OR the night that she had her debate with Joe Biden.
She talked about the fact that Obama said that our troops were air raiding villages and killing innocent people as well as the fact that Obama is buddies with a known domestic terrorist William Ayers.
I don’t like the company that Obama keeps one bit. The fact that he is well connected to William Ayers is not in the least bit shocking to me.
Look at who his mentor and pastor of 20 years is!? Come on – we all know the company and friends Obama has is not on the up-and-up. Obama is not somebody would throw my vote away on.
Why hasn’t Obama explained his relationship with William Ayers?
The other thing that bugged me while I was there is that scanning the audience, I did not see any black people. That bothers me!
I feel like there are lots of black people that live in Omaha that are going to be voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin but I did not see them. Not unless they were in the balcony. I saw a few standing outside in line waiting to get in but not inside.
The only black people that I saw inside were the secret service, the news media and a couple of photographers. That was it! Oh and some police officers too.
I would be interested in hearing from you if you are in Omaha, Nebraska and attended yesterday’s Sarah Palin program. Thanks!

I’m so glad you got to go! Great pics too!
Were you able to go up at the end and try to meet her?
How cool! I hope she comes to my state! I want to hear her speak! I **HEART** Palin!
I HEART PALIN TOO!! =]
I noticed the same thing at the rally here in the Kansas City area– very few black people.
The few we DID see were doctors and nurses holding up signs “Nurses for McCain/Palin”,
“MD’s for McCain/Palin”, etc. (The rally was held at a Senior Living center right next to a hospital)
I think it’s sad that there’s such a HUGE chasm. I’m pretty sure there are just as many white voters for Obama as there are black. But very few blacks (perspectively)for McCain/Palin. And sadly– that’s pretty much always been the case. Blacks are generally going to vote a straight Democratic ticket. I think ALOT of that has to do with their churches taking political positions . So much of the preaching is political in nature– as we’ve seen from Reverend Wright, and as even black political pundits admit. And they hear it all their lives. Remember all the talk about “social gospel” during the Reverend Wright fiasco? I’d never even HEARD that term before until this election.
I think another part of the problem is the way some activist groups target mostly black communities and TELL them who to vote for based soley on the fact that their skin is black.
All over this part of KC (a mostly poverty level black area) there are signs at the street corners by a group called “Freedom Inc”. It shows a pair of black hands in slave shackles and SAYS to vote a straight democratic ticket. And everytime the big elections come around we start getting flyers in the mail. Same group– same picture of black hands in shackles and a list of all the democrat candidates. It says something like “take this with you to the voting booth and vote for these candidates”.
The same thing is further down in the “inner” part of KC that is predominatly black and low income. So they SPECIFICALLY target lower income, less educated people who ALSO probably know the LEAST about the candidates and tell them who to vote for. This SAME group fills up van after van after van and takes them to the polls, UNASHAMEDLY admitting that they tell them who to vote for and give them those flyers to take to the voting booth with them.
Just want to clarify this –”I think another part of the problem is the way some activist groups target mostly black communities and TELL them who to vote for based soley on the fact that their skin is black”
I was talking about the VOTER’S skin being black, not the candidate. The message in everything “Freedom, IND” does is “if you’re skin is black, you should vote for ‘this’ person”
I heard about that on the news the other day. If only some of those die-hard poverty stricken democrats knew that it’s the Democratic party as a hole that contributes to their demise. I might sound harsh in my thoughts on that but it’s true.
For the most part the Democratic Party has always wanted more government in our business. They want us to depend on the government for everything and anything. Democrats want our taxes raised because they need more money to control all aspects of our beautiful nation. They don’t want us to have prosperity in a free market society. They want to tax the businesses to death even knowing that it will cost the American People many jobs.
Our taxes are already high and they’ve taken 700 billion to feed that back into wall street, real estate, whatever… the market has been in the tank. It’s not going to get better. They are even saying that 700 billion was not enough.. yet these poverty stricken people want to continue to vote in people that want to squeeze every penny out of them. (Or as much as they can).
There are black people that are going to vote for McCain and Palin. These same black people would probably be accused of turning their backs on their own race. (When this election isn’t supposed to be about race.) These same black people who are educated and prefer to spend their time away from “the hood” would be accused of being no black enough. Oh heck, even Obama is being accused of not being black enough. Could you imagine if Obama ran the republican ticket?
Unfortunately it is about race but it’s not white people making it about race… it’s mostly black people that do that. They do it to themselves. (Not all but most)
The black people I know would do that and don’t think that way. (Thank God) Those same black people don’t see me as a white girl. They see me as Angela.. and I see them for their name too.
The entire situation is sad and until we get people to realize that it takes work to lift yourself up.. and that sitting around waiting for the welfare check isn’t going to cut it. Welfare is not supposed to be a career choice. It’s only supposed to be temporary until you can pick yourself back up.
I am positively pea green!
If you have a Facebook or Myspace Burg.. I’ve got ALL the pictures from the event posted on those spaces. =]
Okay…it’s been quite some time since I’ve posted on here! Angela – Hello!
Interesting how some think that “black” churches preach to vote democratic. Well the church I attend (Abundant Life Christian Fellowship -http://www.alcf.net/- Senior Pastor Paul E. Sheppard) doesn’t preach political rhetoric. We are there to worship and honor God. The church was a predominately black church when it started back in 1989 but God has truly blessed the church and the congregation is one of the most diverse places to worship in the country. Not once has Pastor Paul said to vote democratic/republican. A true Christian will pray over their decision and understand that this is all in God’s will and whomever wins is how he planned it. That does not imply we all will vote for Senator McCain because he represents Christian beliefs more than Obama. I feel many will vote based on the track record of the republicans and how they’ve lead this country during the past 8 years not on what the church says.
What I find amazing is how when a person talks about blacks voting democratic we mention welfare and hand-outs. But yet the blacks that vote republican are educated and stay away from the hood? I admit there are problems in the inner-cities, but I’ll have you know that there is good in the hood and educated people in the hood and hard-working people in the hood. I digress because this is a totally different social issue that could take up pages and pages of blogging.
Are you trying to say that I said that people who live in the hood are not educated OR hard working? I don’t believe I said anything like that at all.
I was a bit disturbed that there weren’t more black people at the rally. I was told by a family member that I should be surprised because most blacks vote democrat.
I will say that Democrats like those government programs and they want the government in their business. Why else would they vote for higher taxes and vote to keep government programs that only waste our tax dollars?
I agree.. church is to go and worship God. However, I think it’s ok for churches to hand out voter guides if they want to with each candidates political record and what their beliefs and major core principles are. After all, you wouldn’t want to vote somebody into office that goes against God would you?
No Angela, it appeared that’s what you were implying when you said,”These same black people who are educated and prefer to spend their time away from “the hood” would be accused of being not black enough.” I guess that was only referring to blacks voting for McCain/Palin?
I think churches should ensure that every person that is eligible to vote is registered to do so. To be honest, I can’t wait until the election is over and decided. Regardless of the outcome, it’s going to be some rough years ahead for all us. It’s going to take some serious decision making and tough choices to clean up this mess.
I know that no matter what – God is at the wheel!
What I was saying is that there are black people that left “the hood.” They went to college, got an education and are contributing to society and are not on welfare.
If some chooses to go to college, get a job, contribute to society and stay in “the hood” I don’t have a problem with that. It’s totally their choice. It would actually be nice if there were more committees organized to go in there and clean up our neighborhoods. If people would take pride in their homes and yards no matter where they live we wouldn’t have the issue of having “poor neighborhoods.”
There are black people that are accused of not being black enough because of their skin color not being dark enough, because they chose to move to the burbs, or because they chose to go to college instead of running with the gangs.
God is definitely at the wheel. There’s no doubting that. Whoever gets into office will be part of that plan and we’ll have to somehow manage and move on. But that’s with whoever gets into office whether it be Obama OR McCain. God knows what He is doing and sometimes even if the plan doesn’t turn out how we think it should, it works out good and especially for those that Love Him.
The choice of Sarah Palin as VP was a desperate attempt to attract Hillary supporters as reaction to Obama’s VP Pic. It was a very dumb move by McCain and it will backfire. The McCain/Palin campaign’s tactics and attacks are tasteless, tacky, and borderline hateful. The McCain/Palin campaign is pure disgrace. . . they WILL lose.
My husband and I, daughter, son-in-law, and grandaughter all were on stage at the Palin event — what an honor!! She is one fantastic lady! This election is sooo important because Barak Hussein Obama is a Marxist who wants to change our country from a democracy to a socialist, freedomless, Godless place of no hope for anyone. He is the least qualified person to ever run in the history of the U.S.
He is totally clueless about everything — God help us all if he wins, but, no matter what,
SARAH PALIN IS HERE for now and THE FUTURE!!!
Susan, you are so wrong. I’m sorry you’re so angry. If you want to oppose Obama, do so on the facts. He’s not a Marxist, nor does he want to change the country to socialism. He does not want to take away your freedoms, and he is a committed Christian. If you want to argue against him, make an honest argument. Here’s some help: John McCain has years of experience and has the military background key to helping America win the war on terror. John McCain’s economic policies are more likely to fix the economy than Obama’s… etc. See, it’s not hard. Facts are always a better weapon than ridiculous accusations.
Louis from Baton Rouge – You must be a spammer because you keep repeating yourself on most of my posts. I will write it again, I do not agree with your stance.
Susan Correa – You guys were on stage at the Palin even here in Omaha? That is so cool! Did you have an opportunity to shake hands with Sarah? I like that she wants people to call her Sarah. =]
I love America – Susan is entitled to express herself in any way that she wants to. I don’t see anything wrong with what she shared. I’m sure she has her reasons as you do yours. BTW, I love America too.
My friend that dumped me recently told me that she hated America. So I told her if she hates America so much that she should leave. Go Figure!?
Hi Angela,
Yes we did get to shake Sarah’s hand, and we met some really terrific people standing waiting. As for those who support Obama, well, the left has succeeded in the dumbing down of America – the guy has never accomplished anything and his associations are very suspect, to say the least – anyone who really listens to what he says knows he is a Marxist (if they know what that means) who wants to destroy the very foundation of this great country. It’s too bad ignorant, uninformed people are allowed to vote because that’s how we get the crooks we have in Washington….And boy do they hate good God fearing people! That’s why they’re out to destroy Sarah Palin….GOD HELP US!!!
@Susan – Thank you for sharing that. When I was watching you guys stand on the stage I was a bit concerned because you guys stood there for a LONG time! Let’s see, I was sitting over on the left side facing the stage about 9 rows back. I do understand what you are saying about NOBama. I really do! I get it!
