Angela, looked at this ’cause you mentioned it on Twitter and, oh my goodness, this is racist and I am with your husband.
I don’t know what you were thinking, but posting pictures of Arabic/Indian/Middle Eastern “versions” of American symbols, implies nothing good about a black president. I’ve just looked it up and his father is from Kenya, his mother from Kansas and he was born in Hawaii; what does this have to do with a “parody” of Playboy in Afghanistam?
I thought you had some interesting views Angela, but you have got this so very wrong.
I just thought I would get another perspective so I showed this to my husband (who just happens to be from Iraq) and he thought it was hilarious! So, I guess what is racist to some is just a funny joke to others - you can’t win with everyone, but here at my house the Arab thinks it’s a hoot.
While I appreciate the humour in the images, and yes they are quite funny, the implication here is that if Obama is elected president that he will impose Middle Eastern fallacies upon normal American activities. While that too is clearly a joke, the issue is with race.
As I pointed out above, Obama is of African and American descent. This post implies that anyone who is not from America with white skin is what? Arabic? They ride a camel? They will enforce laws or religions of other countries upon you?
What were you thinking posting these pictures under this title, Angela?
I’m intrigued Phil– I WOULD understand your point if you thought that the pictures expressed religious intolerance towards Islam . But you said it expressed racism.
To me, the pictures represent a fear of radical Muslim ideals, (which personally, I believe is a legitimate concern), in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way. But I don’t see the “racism” you claim toward Obama being black. Where do you see racism?
Yeah Phil, lighten up. Tracy got it right. You are reading too much into this humour.
BTW, though Obama’s father is from Kenya, I believe he was Muslim. So if I am correct, there is a connection, however tenuous.
It’s religious intolerance, but that’s what I can see as being funny. If the title of the post had been “Isn’t Islam a bit funny, what if we were all Muslim” then I’d have laughed.
Instead you are insinuating that because Obama is not white he is Muslim, and as Tracy says, the pictures represent fear. The two add up to fear of Obama, fear of an African American, fear of someone who looks different. It is racism.
Ask yourself a couple of questions. Why do you look at Obama and think Muslim? Obama is not Muslim. Why do you look at him with fear? He is trying to become your president, to lead you into the future.
I’m just disappointed that this blog is as forward thinking as your country’s foreign policy.
Gotta agree with Phil. Obama isn’t Muslim, yet many of the racist tirades leveled against him by rabid primary voters espouse this mistaken belief. So echoing that line is clearly playing on and supporting those mistaken beliefs - at least with the headline you have now.
Had you headlined it “what do they think’s gonna happen when Obama wins?” or something along those lines — now we’re in Comedy Central territory.
You know how tired you get of hearing folks like me yammering on about how there is a Communist under every bed? Well, thats how tired folks are going to get of hearing you find a racist behind everything you don’t like.
I honestly thought it was funny. I titled it the way that I did because that is the title that was used when it was sent to me as an e-mail forward.
I don’t see the racism at all. I do see the humor though..
I do appreciate your willingness to share how you feel about it. My husband was shocked when he saw my post and to be honest.. I was shocked that he was shocked.
“Instead you are insinuating that because Obama is not white he is Muslim…..The two add up to fear of Obama, fear of an African American, fear of someone who looks different.,”
Sorry Phil, but that doesn’t make ANY sense.
No where in any of the pictures does ANYTHING have ANYTHING to do with “Obama is not white” , or that he is an African American. Our country is filled African Americans and I’m not afraid of them. I actually voted for Alan Keyes (African American) in the
primaries, hoping HE would get the republican nomination instead of Bush. During Alan Keyes campaign, no one made up pictures of the White House with Islamic temple domes on top, or pictures of playboy models wearing Burka hoods. The fear has nothing do with Barack being Black, the fear is that he isn’t the Christian he says he is, but rather a Muslim who CLAIMS to be Christian. His father and stepfather were Muslim, his mother was a Marxist. He joined Pastor Wright’s church, which focuses on “Black Liberation” theology, which is EXTREMELY marxist in nature. Even many African American political pundits agree with that.
Obama actually campaigned for his cousin Raila Odinga, who was running for president of Kenya. (That’s WHY he was in Kenya in ‘06 when those infamous pictures of him wearing muslim garb were taken). Personally, I didn’t care that he wore their garb. It’s pretty common for US presidents’ambassadors, etc to wear the garb of the country they’re visiting if it’s offered to them. My concern was WHY he was there. He was there to campaign for his cousin who IS a radical Muslim and promised to enforce Sharia Law in Kenya, which is predominately a CHRISTIAN country. You can find articles about it AND a copy of the contract that Odinga signed promising to enforce Sharia Law in a mostly Christian country.
So here’s the concern expressed in these photos: Here you have Obama who supposedly converted to Christianity, but whose church has radical marxist views (marxism is not compatible with Christianity). He was brought up Muslim and his parents embraced marxist views. Then he grows up, “converts” to Christianity, but joins the church that holds to the Marxist views. And Pastor Wright’s bodyguards are members of the Nation of Islam.
Figure THAT one out.
So Obama campaigns for a radical Muslim relative who wants to pledges to enforce Sharia Law in a predominantly Christian country, and he calls Pastor Wright his spiritual mentor, when he’s racist, marxist, and uses the Nation of Islam as his bodyguards.
My concerns about Obama (besides his politics, which I completely disagree with) have to do with him seeming to be very dishonest and disingenuine. From the very beginning, my thought about him has been that
1. He either converted ONLY to make a name for himself in Chicago by associating himself with the biggest, most popular black church in the Chicago area, and therefore is still Muslim in his heart. This would also explain why over 20 years of belonging to church he “supposedly” NEVER heard Pastor Wright say anything racist, anti-Semitic, or Anti-American. Because he never really WENT or listened to the sermons, but rather just showed up at church social events and associated with a big-name pastor.
OR
2. He actually DID convert to some perverted form of Christianity, he DID hear those sermons and AGREES with Pastor Wright and still holds onto his Marxist parents’ views which are very compatible with radical Muslim views, which may also explain why he campaigned for his radical Muslim distant cousin.
Sorry– meant to post the website for the Christian alliance in Kenya (which DREADED the thought of Odinga becoming president and taking away their right to practice Christianity) http://www.eakenya.org
Yikes– 3 in a row, sorry Angela. Don’t mean to be a posting hog. But I thought this quote from an article written by Rev. Lainie Dowell, would be appropriate here. Rev. Dowel was a civil rights advocate, community activist, and served ast the secretary for the NAACP in Howard County, MD, and has been the Ministerial Advocate for Christian Clergywomen for over 20 years. Here’s what SHE said about Obama– she’s a reverend and she’s black–
“After closely following the anti-American diatribes of Obama’s minister, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, for decades, I believe that Obama has been groomed from childhood to be The Great Muslim Hope of taking over America. Why? Because of his own words and associations, and also because of his wife Michelle’s parroted refrain of her husband’s and Rev. Wright’s words and sentiments…
Democrats like Obama have consistently failed to enact legislation that would alleviate many of the ills this nation has encountered. And when Black people like me tell them as much, they shout them down and make those who pull back the covers out to be “bigots,”, “racists,” “House-Negroes”, etc.”
The point is– fear of Obama has nothing to do with him not being white or because he “looks different” as Phil stated. Take it from a black woman.
Why do I even go to this site anymore? This posting was ignorant and made me feel dumber looking at it. This wasn’t funny.
So far, despite what Tracy alleges, there is nothing concrete to say that Obama is a Muslim. Nothing. His childhood and his friends’ and family’s religions do not offer proof that he is a hidden Muslim. He has said that he is a CHRISTIAN. If you choose not to believe that, well, I can’t make you change your mind.
And lastly, I thought America had the freedom of religion? Even if Obama is a hidden Muslim, which he isn’t, wouldn’t that be his choice? Even if he became the first Muslim president, there is no way he could impose Sharia law on America. It wouldn’t happen. He would be ousted and ridden out of the country on a rail. We have nothing to fear from that. You may say he would be softer on Muslim nations around the world. While that may be the only threat (if he is a hidden Muslim, which he isn’t), I see no basis for that. Any president should do what is best for the country. Our current president thought he was, or lied to us that he was, and now only 20% of the nation agrees with his policy.
If Obama revealed any nature of hidden Islamic beliefs, the nation would remove him from power. You people have nothing to fear.
It seems to me that a lot of people here believe in freedom of religion only applies to Christians. They won’t admit that, but they show it with their actions. This post is the perfect example. Not funny. Not ‘ha ha.’
I think you’re misunderstanding, Patrick. Being a Christian myself, I certainly WOULD prefer a Christian president, and I’ll admit that right off. But my concern (and the concern of many others) isn’t that Barack may actually be a “closet Muslim”. I’m not afraid of Muslims. I happen to live in a city that has a very large Muslim community, and we have Muslim friends. One just taught me how to make Chicken Briani (which I highly recommend to anyone!) I also happen to LOVE saris and have three of them. ALL of them were GIFTS from my Muslim friends. Two from a friend from Punjab and one from a friend who’s orginially from Bangladesh. One of my coworkers is from Pakistan and he’s a very nice man with a lovely family.
They are certainly free to worship however they want. And if any of them were to run for a political position, I would feel confidant in voting for them because I know their views and we happen to agree on almost everything when it comes to politics.
My problem with Barack isn’t his faith. It’s his political views and what appears to be his DISHONESTY about his faith. I also have serious concerns about his associations. Why would he campaign for a RADICAL Muslim presidential candidate in Kenya??
I don’t have a problem with Muslims. But I do have a problem with radical jihadist Muslims.
I DO agree that many Christians probably WOULD have a real problem with someone who isn’t Christian being nominated as president.
But many wouldn’t.
Though I would PREFER my president being a Christian, I WOULD vote for a non-Christian president IF I agreed with his/her politics and felt I could trust them. I would vote for a black president, a hispanic president, a Catholic, a Baptist, a Mormon, a Jew, etc if I felt they were trustworthy and I agreed with their politics. Barack Obama is NOT that person for me.
When he says he is a Christian and only a Christian, how is that dishonest? Is there really any concrete evidence that he is a closet Muslim? No, not really.
Look, saying that Obama may be a Muslim because of his contacts is similar to saying that if one of my brothers is in prison and I still love and support him then I am a criminal too. Are all of Obama’s friends good, righteous people? Not really. There are problems. But it doesn’t mean Obama believes in their ideals.
There is no evidence that Obama was trained from childhood to be the “The Great Muslim Hope of taking over America” as you put it. If you have any evidence other than Obama’s friends and conspiracy theories please tell me. Also, by saying this, it doesn’t seem you are as comfortable with Muslims as you claim. I have no problem with Muslims, though I don’t like Sharia law or Islamic fundamentalists (Taliban, etc.), but I don’t think we have to worry about them because of Barack Obama and the possibility of him being president. There really is no way Muslims will take over America.
I support people voting on who they agree with over issues, but making up problems like this is just asinine. It’s like saying McCain may be a Manchurian Candidate because of his years as a tortured POW of communists. I don’t think any of the candidates is a Manchurian Candidate (either Obama or McCain).
Believe me, I wish I knew more Muslims in my community. I wish I had the connections. I am glad that you are very accepting of them and that you hold them dear. I just wish people would believe the facts about someone. The link of Obama being a hidden Muslim just isn’t there. If it exists, I will be the first person to admit my mistake. Just show us the proof.
“Is there really any concrete evidence that he is a closet Muslim? No, not really.”
You’re right. I completely agree that there’s no “concrete evidence”. But I’m not trying to convict someone in a court of law. I’m trying to vote for a president, and my serious CONCERNS even though they aren’t based in concrete evidence, are legitmate. I don’t HAVE to have concrete evidence. I have to have a reason to trust him. And from everything I’ve seen so far, I have no reason to trust him at all.
I don’t believe for one minute that he didn’t know his own pastor and “spiritual mentor’s” views. I think he knew DARN WELL what Wright stands for. But for argument’s sake, let’s say he didn’t know. And let’s say he had a true and sincere conversion to Christianity. AFter 20 YEARS of being in that church, he either KNEW what Wright stood for and agreed with him, and THAT’S why he was a member of that church. OR he knew what Wright stood for and he just ignored it, because he was more concerned about making power-ties in the black community and trying to make a name for himself there, so his membership was just a ticket to power and had nothing to do with God.
Campaigning for a RADICAL Muslim running for president of a mostly Christian country also is a legitimate concern.
All of that is only SECONDARY to the fact that I completely disagree with his position on tthe issues. His views are COMPLETELY the opposite of mine.
Oh– and just to be clear, please note that it wasn’t me who said that “Obama was trained from childhood to be the “The Great Muslim Hope of taking over America”. That was the Reverend Lainie Dowell, a former secretary of the NAACP.
I was just quoting her.
Okay, I guess I didn’t see the quotes of Lainie Dowell. My bad. I was at work and didn’t read it correctly. But you obviously believe her.
I agree that it’s best to vote for the candidate that best exemplifies your positions. Of course that’s the way to vote. I said that in my earlier post.
Wright is wrong (haha, pun) about a lot of things. I don’t think Black people were injected with AIDs by the US government. He doe have some basis in historical knowledge though. If you know much, you should know the US injected black men with Syphilis and didn’t tell or cure them (Tuskegee Experiment).
However, from historical knowledge, he is sort of correct on saying that our birds are coming home to roost (I don’t remember the real quote) concerning 9/11. While our support of Israel may be somewhat legitimate, Israel should not exist as a country legally. They basically took over shared land and are systematically oppressing (and to an extent, exterminating) the Muslim people there. Do I think Israel should be a country? Yes. But do I think they should be located in the same place? No. Personally, I think the Jews should have been given East Prussia after WWII, but the Soviets wouldn’t have been too keen on that.
I digress. Concerning 9/11, the US also supports terrorism in many cases throughout the world. Look at the histories of Chile or Iran to see. Wright was okay in some things, and bad in others. He isn’t the total authority. Wright believes in too many conspiracy theories, but he isn’t all wrong.
Obama denied his association with Wright because he’s a politician. Any candidate would do that. I don’t blame him for that. He was his pastor, and he doesn’t have to accept everything his pastor says. I didn’t.
Oh yeah, and who is Obama campaigning for that is a “RADICAL” Muslim? Seriously, he’s not campaigning for a single person. Tell that to the 75,000 people who came out to hear him speak in Oregon a few days ago.
“Oh yeah, and who is Obama campaigning for that is a “RADICAL” Muslim?”
I think you’re skimming too much. But I’ll sum up for you. Remember the whole dabacle over Obama wearing muslim clothing when he went to Africa in ‘06? The whole reason he was THERE was to show support and help in the campagin of Raila Odinga who was running for president in Kenya.
You can go to the website for an alliance of Christian leaders in Kenya and read the agreement signed by Odinga, promising courts to enforce Sharia Law in Kenya, to require that ALL schools have Madrassa classes, to outlaw all Christian proselyting. In return, the Islamic leaders he was dealing with promised to ensure that Odinga would get voter support in the presidential election. http://www.http://www.eakenya.org/newsevents/article.htm?id=8
Also, frankly, I wasn’t skimming. I don’t know everything about Obama, and you didn’t state Raila Odinga’s name. You put Odinga in the same paragraph you were discussing Wright, who is obviously not Muslim. There was no transition. How was I supposed to know you were talking of someone different? So it was easy to be confused when you weren’t clear at all. The way you wrote about campainging for a Muslim in a predominantly Christian nation sounded exactly like America to me, not Kenya.
So, Odinga isn’t a radical Muslim. Odinga is a member of the Luo people, who are also predominantly Christian. He just chose to associate with Muslims for power. Is that a good thing? No. Kenya is screwed up as it is. Hundreds to thousands died after that election.
I can’t defend everything that Barack Obama does. Like I said earlier, his associations don’t necessarily form his beliefs. Just because he was supporting someone doesn’t mean that he goes along with everything they say. Look at John Hagee and John McCain. Hagee is campaigning for McCain, and McCain supports Hagee. McCain also says he doesn’t believe everything the guy says (anti-Catholic and anti-Semitic). So how is that different at all?
I also look at political platforms, which you seem to be ignoring when it comes to my choice. To me, Obama has the best platform.
Patrick — we’re probably about to agree to disagree here. Tracy has been QUITE clear with her comments as to where she is on the issues as well as the comments you have left on Domestic Divapalooza.
You believe that Obama has the best platform and I do not. Obama does not have enough political experience first of all and as a half-white-half-black candidate I’m not going to vote for him OR not vote for him based on the color of his skin.
He keeps talking about his platform and building it around the idea that this country needs a change but he doesn’t elaborate as to what that change should be. Our country is changing and has always changed and will continue to change no matter what Obama says.
Obama wanting to have tea with our enemies doesn’t convince me that he is the right one for the White House. Obama has friendships with people I would not associate myself with EVER. He’s kanoodling with people not in line with what I believe and THAT in itself is scary.
I know.. you don’t like what I have to say. You don’t like what Tracy has to say. But it is what it is and there is nothing you can do to change what we believe OR what we think about this race.
I never tried to change your minds. I know I can’t do that. I am just supporting what I write on here. Neither of us will be able to change the other person’s mind. I know that.
The only reason I post on here is to provide a different voice. Most people on here just all say the same thing (usually). I’m providing my own opinion, which I try to back up.
We obviously have different opinions on what is funny. Sometimes things are okay. Those pictures of this post can be considered funny (to some people) if you look at them in a different context. But when I saw the assertion that Obama is Muslim, I had to respond to what I consider as a falsehood (with good reason). I also see some of the pictures as offensive not just to him but to all Muslims, which some people agree with. I’m fine if you have your own opinion on it.
Also, I have to say those pictures aren’t laughing at ourselves, but at another culture.
ooops– I hit enter too soon.
Patrick, I meant you must have been skimming over the PREVIOUS posts because I explained all about Odinga earlier in the thread but you asked what radical Muslim Obama had campaigned for, after I’d already explained it. So it sounded like you hadn’t read my posts.
I just noticed why the link didn’t work for you– the “http” part is in there twice.
Try it now. http://www.eakenya.org/newsevents/article.htm?id=8
I am getting conflicted information from other sites. Odinga is supposed to be from the Luo, right? Most Luo people are Christians. Also, the Kenyan Muslims have denied the MOU stating that sharia law is going to be implemented: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7115387.stm
While coming from them this may be a maskirovka, it should not be ignored. Of course the MOU would be a bad thing. But around half of the Kenyan people voted his party into the share of power (the election is highly dubious on both sides, although). I don’t disagree with you there. That will be bad if it proves to be true. Do I want that to happen? No. But we do not yet know if it’s a certainty, though it may be likely (from what I have seen).
I again state, that even if Barack Obama was a closet Muslim, there is nothing for Americans to fear from that. Sharia law will not be implemented here. If he declares Islamic beliefs if elected president, he would either be removed from power or worse. I don’t see how he could be more lenient to most Islamic states than we are now. We tolerant terrible actions by lawmakers in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, and other nations like Kenya and more in Africa. We don’t interfere. How would that change? Our nation couldn’t care less. It’s sad, really. I hate reading stories of killings by fathers who say their daughters dishonoring the family. I hate seeing young people executed for not bowing down to Sharia law. But our nation does nothing. They tolerate practically anything. So how would a closet Muslim (which I don’t see credible evidence for) make it any worse? It may be possible, but I doubt we could be any more apathetic in the administration.
Also, like I said earlier, I base my decision on who I support do to their platform. I know you do too, but it constantly seems like you’re conveniently ignoring that fact for me. You don’t trust Obama. Well, from all of the lies Hillary Clinton has said, I don’t trust her either. I used to like her as a candidate and I used to not care less if either she or Obama won. But her actions in recent months have totally made me lean towards Obama. And if I’m not mistaken, the Democratic party of the country is increasingly liking him more than Clinton as well. She doesn’t have much of a chance to win now.
Dammit, this site is terrible (IT wise, Twitter?). I wrote a huge reply, hit submit, and then it just disappeared. Fifteen minutes of my life wasted. I’ll try to reply to some of it now again. Ugh.
Fine, I’ll scrap everything I wrote in that post. I don’t know why Obama was supporting Odinga. I haven’t heard him recently coming out in support of him. I suppose it’s due to both of them being Luo people. I understand that. I don’t understand why Raila Odinga, of the predominantly Christian Luo, would make a pact with sharia law wanting Muslims except that he wants to have power. Is that a good thing? No, it’s terrible. However, around half of the country voted for him and his party (dubious election on both sides). I don’t know why, but I guess people thought he would do a better job. But like I said earlier, I support a candidate on their platform, not their associations. You always seem to be ignoring that.
You don’t trust Obama. I can see why, and I accept that even though I may not agree. I don’t trust Hillary. A few months ago I equally liked both and I couldn’t care less who won the candidacy. I liked both. But her actions of recent months have entirely changed my mind. I have seen her actions and tactics, and it really made me angry. Her comment on obliterating Iran really hit me hard. Using nukes is not something I support. I learned more about her and her platform, and she just was not the candidate for me. I would see her as another continuation of some of Bush’s policies.
We’re not going to agree on the issue. Frankly, all of these comments get way off of subject of the original post. Obama, Clinton, and McCain are all politicians. They will say what they need to say to get elected. Not one of the three is perfect. We could nitpick all day over all of their faults. It’s just that from what I have seen, Obama would do the best to help out our country. The Democrats are increasingly voting for him. He has the lead, and it is looking more and more improbable that Hillary Clinton can win. I’m sorry, but that is the case.
Hey Patrick, what is it about the site that is causing everything to lock up on you? I want to try and figure that out so I can get rid of whatever is doing that..? Thanks!
“Obama, Clinton, and McCain… Not one of the three is perfect.”
Truer words were never spoken. I don’t like ANY of them!! This election is going to be a disappointment for me either way. But none of them scare me more than Obama and it goes way beyond anything that has to do with his personal religion. I’ve sensed something very sinister from him since the beginning…wolf in sheep’s clothing. And I have the nagging feeling that he’s going to take office next January. Heaven help us.
I don’t know what the problem is IT-wise with the site. It may be because I wrote for too long. But I hit submit for a comment, the screen refreshes, and the comment disappears into the ether. I don’t know what happens, but it’s occurred a few times with me.
Anyway, almost every politician is the same. They will say what they need to say in order to achieve their position or goal. That’s not a good thing, but it’s ingrained in American politics.
Personally, for me, I fear McCain the most. Don’t get me wrong, I respect McCain. But our current president and administration is seemingly heading towards a face off with Iran. Sometimes it looks like war is imminent, other times not. It’s scary. If that happens, and McCain is elected, then I have something to worry. I have three brothers, one of whom is a twin. We are all of draft age. One is 18, another is 20, and me and my brother are almost 25. If we go to war with Iran, and it’s a ground war, I have the fear one of us (or more) will be drafted. While I doubt we have to fear from our lives, I know it will be a major disruption. My two younger brothers are extremely intelligent. The youngest, who is in the largest danger of being drafted, but got a free ride to USC. If he gets drafted, at best his life is held back, and at worst, ruined.
I fear that McCain may institute a draft. I could see our administration possibly implementing a false-flag terror event to provide support or a reason for war. If that happens, I don’t know what will go down. If any of my 3 brothers gets drafted, I would try to go for them. I don’t want their lives to be disrupted when it could be mine. I am prepared to go if needed, and they aren’t. I fear that if Clinton gets the nomination, McCain will win. Polls I have seen have shown that Obama has a much better chance of beating McCain. Now, I respect McCain. He is not that great, but he is a war hero and he has shown to be somewhat more liberal than the current neocons. Out of all Republicans, I would support him if I had to. But I feel that we have a much better chance for peace if a Democrat was in power.
Anyway, it still looks like Obama will win the nomination. I know we see him differently. However, I feel, and I can probably back it up, that he would be our best candidate.
Obama: an economic snake in the grass. Barack can’t make me live live a Mohammedan, but he sure can wreck our economy with his progressive (read: Marxist) economic mythology.
Is there someone on his campaign that has resorted to posting on blogs to try and pushgarner support for him?
What happen to have a right to an opinion (or sense of humor however twisted it might be). What is it with the HUGE sensitivity?
Little wonder that nothing can get done; Everyone is TOO worry with being too P.C. and less concerned about actually looking at the issues and even then, it’s okay to be sarcastic; We are lucky to be living in a country where our internet access isn’t shut down on a whim of a government, we are lucky we can disagree and not have to subscribe to one form of political ideology and yet we use that freedom to tell another person, you can’t post this but I can? How is that showing respect?
If something is offensive…don’t go back to it unless one is seriously bored with nothing better to do, otherwise the reality is that Obama isn’t and may not be the one to solve our problems; We have to be careful we are not subscribing to wishful thinking and really look at the facts that are there.
This is the same man who supported denying giving infants who survived an abortive attempt any form of medical assistance.
He may sound good but he is still a poltician and he isn’t required to follow through his promises once he gets into office.
Like all politicians, the ultimate goal is to convince the people enough to vote for him so he can get into what he really wants…THE OFFICE; We are just pieces in a chess game for him that doesn’t really matter.
He knows how to play the game and say what needs to be said to get him elected just like any other politician.
If people have geniune concerns, maybe because they see something there that they take the time to read about, think about and decide.
Everyone has just as much a right to decide as they have a right to disagree, but it doesn’t give another person the right to say, because they don’t agree, this site is wrong.
People are concerned particularly since he is still member of a church that practices a twisted form of theology that if any other person of a different color subscribe too..would be called endorsing hate.
People are concerned because he is espousing something that is too much along the lines that goes against what the governement is about, but the trouble is that in the quest for change and peace, people are willing to accept anything because they, like all of us, are tired of high gas prices, uncertain futures and terrorism but we have to be careful that we are not going to be suspectible that we are just going to accept anything just because it looks good, when the reality it may deep down under, isn’t good.
We can’t tell how bad an egg is until it’s cracked and right now, the egg hasn’t been cracked and unless we have personal inside knowledge…we can’t let our guard down just because we are tired and want change…Even know we must be on our guard that we are not just so tired of looking we dont’ care if we buy a lemon.
The concern isn’t what happens now but what happens when who ever goes into office; Someone with ill intentions and able to get as high as they are, aren’t going to be that un-intelligent that they are going to let their ill intentions be known right away.
This isn’t the movies.
In real life, the wolves will come looking like sheep and wait till they are where they want to be before they throw off the covers.
Why should we be let the wooden horse in the gates, just because it “looks harmless” only to find out 2,3,5 years down the line the mistake we’ve made.
Changes don’t happen overnight. Anyone with ill intention isn’t going to let themselves known before hand and will not wait till they get sworn in and the evil scientist music starts playing to throw off the mask.
People are more intelligent than we give them credit for and they have time we don’t have. Now isn’t the time to let impatience get the better of us and lead us down a road that we can’t come back from.
Change happens subtly not overnight and that’s the concern there…It starts small before snowballing…Remember Germany.
It didn’t happen overnight…people knew then and were shot down as being worrywarts and they didn’t start overnight but there subtle policies and changes in the laws; They had charisma and knew how to belay the fears of those who were tired of being “oppressed and depressed” by a bad financial time; When people want gold, they are willing to do anything to satisfy it now rather than wait and work toward it.
Diva, Sorry for the long post but it’s frightening how people are willing to believe anything just because they want it now and not remember history of what happens when we give in to quick appeasment.
How can our economy get any worse that it is? Well, I guess it can, but it’s already tanked. Frankly, the next president, whoever they are, probably won’t be able to do that much to help the economy. They will try, but it may be years before we become more prosperous than now. The Federal Reserve system is hurting us badly.
Can you seriously back up the “Marxist” label? Our nation has nothing to fear from communistic principles, since no one would support them. How can Barack possibly be worse than McCain, who says he knows practically nothing about the economy? What is wrong with being progressive? Almost all democratic economic principles (Clinton and Obama) are the same, anyway.
At one time we were a monarchy, under the total rule and whims of a king. We weren’t always a democracy and we’ve been a democracy for less than 200 years.
The people at one time didn’t put up with a monarchy, rebelled and established a democracy, but whose to say a democracy is forever…At one time, people thought a monarchy was forever….
Governments will always change as will everything else; Rome was a great empire and it fell too…..
Nothing is forever.
So whose to say what was right then?
We have to be careful when we say what people will or will not allow.
There is a reason then, why we learn history and government and not just democratic government, but to learn that nothing is forever set in stone and susceptible to be changed.
Whose to say 5-10 years we will have the same government we professed will not put up with anything.
There is no absolutes.
That is the concern because it’s a genuine and real possibilities and we have to be careful not to get too comfortable…Change doesn’t happen overnight and democracy didn’t happen immediately…it was a long process and it took time for it to replace the monarchy that our country was ONCE under…So whose to say it can’t happen again.
Wow, you sprout out history but you clearly aren’t applying the whole picture. The appeasement quote at the end has no merit. Siting down and talking with an enemy is not the same thing as Neville Chamberlain (and the League of Nations) allowing Hitler to remiliterize the Rhineland, take back the Sudentenland, allow the Aunschluss, and then allow Hitler to take over Czechoslovakia. Clearly wrong. However, discussing peace terms and trying to negotiate is not the same as appeasement. Who is giving in to quick appeasement?
We are not in the same position as Germany was in the post WWI phase. We are in a recession, though not the same recession and period of hyper-inflation that plagued Germany the 1920’s and early 1930’s. We don’t have to worry about someone becoming Dictator for life. We’re not going to snowball into a ‘Marxist’ or ‘Muslim’ nation, regardless of who is the president.
I understand that it’s not a good idea to let your guard down. That is clearly a fine idea and has merit. However, we have to realize that the president is one person (man or woman). They can only affect your life so much.
Frankly, comparing Obama to Hitler (or even Stalin, who may have been worse than Hitler) is disgusting. If you make that comparison, you clearly don’t know history yourself.
We’ve already become to comfortable and complacent as a nation. Our current administration is becoming more oppressive all the time. We allowed it to snowball into a pre-police state. They ignore our constitution at whim. It’s disgusting.
Having a democrat back in office will hopefully allow the nation to return to a more free status. Hopefully they’ll repeal the PATRIOT Act.
Of course there are no absolutes. Many things could happen. But a radical nation like the one you foresee as a possible future seems like a actually similar to what would happen if we continue down the path of the neocon.
Our government is entirely different right now than what it was back when we became a nation. That is clearly the case. I think you, Anonymous, can agree with that. Things have changed, and will continue to change, regardless of who is in power. Democracy is far from being perfect. I doubt there is any government that is.
Out of curiousity, “How did the same people that allow a police-state to happen not allow a marxist government happen” particularly since none of us wants a police-state or a marxist government.
Both Obama and Hillary’s economic plans for America are tainted by Marxist thought. Taking from the rich to give to the poor, which both promise to do, is nothing more than a restatement of Marx’s basic screed: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.’
In absolutely every historical instance where Marx’s aphorism has been applied, the result has been to take from the productive members of society and give to the unproductive freeloaders. Inevitably, the productive members get tired of pulling everyone else’s weight and eventually no one is productive.
That is the result we saw with the failed Soviet Union, and it is the result China is trying to avoid by allowing capitalism to flourish just enough to keep their heads above water.
Frankly, Marxist thought is not the sole reason the Soviet Union failed. I do agree though that China is communist in name only. They may be more capitalist than the USA. Well, maybe not that much, but you get my drift.
Many basic principles of Marxist ideas were around before Karl Marx. If you have to apply the term “Marxist” to Clinton and Obama, you need to apply it to practically every politician in our current and past government. McCain will also take from the rich and give to the poor. It will happen as long as we have a welfare system and taxes. They’re all Marxists then. Unless the entire government is overhauled and removed, we will have some Marxist ideals. People like Ron Paul and other libertarians are not the same and may bring change. Is that good? Maybe, but maybe not as well.
Not all of Marxist thought is terrible, either. While none of it is perfect, some ideas are beneficial. It’s a matter of opinion of course. Historically communist nations have been pretty terrible. It all comes down to who is in power. But not all of the basic communist ideas are evil.
Well, in a police state, thought is oppressed. Things like the PATRIOT Act have curtailed free thought and basic liberties guaranteed to us. Could I say that would not certainly happen in a Marxist state? No. It all depends on the people in power. However, given this country’s fervent hatred for all things communist, I think people would be more vigilant against its incursion. Even slow progress towards redness would most likely be detected and stopped.
You’ll get no more repartee from ptg, Patrick. You are an ill-educated idiot. Sorry, but thats the conclusion I will be taking away from your efforts here. Adios and good luck in your brave new world.
Wow, way to take the high road there. It’s a good way to refute an argument. Ill-educated? Considering all I read is history books, I probably know a whole lot more than you. Of course there is no way to prove that, but you did go a long way to prove me right with that last post. Nice.
I never wanted to change the world. I’m only telling it as I see it. We have different opinions. I try to support them, and I guess you just like making insults.
I’m glad you feel vindicated. I only attended three universities and two graduate schools for more than 10 years, and of my several degrees, I have a Bachelor’s in history. Keep telling it the way you see it. One day your vision will improve.
Well, my vision may improve, but not to one that would accept your viewpoint. Yours seems clouded by Republicanism, conservatism, and racism.
Considering most of the article on “Plains Feeder” are not very well written or supported, I don’t feel much of a threat from you. They only provide your viewpoint, ignoring all the facts that refute your imperfect ideas.
Your Schwarzenegger article insulting people from Austria as well as Democrats and moderate Republicans was a good one (not). You also think a person’s neighbors should be punished rather than the perpetrator of animal cruelty because they didn’t do anything. I do think they should have done something but the guy should be punished as well. You say animal cruelty shouldn’t be a crime. What is your basis for that?
You claim that a windmill going out of control, having its spokes fly all over is extremely dangerous. Sure, it is. But in America, that has yet to contribute to a single death (From David Craig’s article on Wind Turbine Safety). Around 40 people or so total have been killed from their construction and transport. I guarantee that pales to your vaulted oil industry. The article on your site concerning their danger didn’t list any fatalities, did it? You call them ‘cuisinarts of the air” despite the fact that only 70,000 birds are killed by them a year in America. 57 million birds are killed by cars and 97.5 million are killed by plate glass yearly in America (from the Skeptical Environmentalist). An article in Nature stated that each wind turbine kills on average 0.03 birds per year, or one kill per thirty turbines. They sure are extremely deadly to birds, aren’t they ptd?
“How I hope these are all just lies McCain is telling just to get elected. In my dreams: as soon as he takes the oath of office, President McCain is going to pull off that awful mask he’s been wearing on the campaign trail. The real McCain, a cross between Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater, will emerge to save America from stupidity, cupidity, Marxism and Mohammed.”
Cupidity? Just say greed. Oh, and the way you say we shouldn’t help out people (the poor) seems pretty greedy, ptd.
Sigh. I know most neoconservative people like you will only listen to themselves. Whatever I say won’t change your mind. You’ve already made up your mind on what is right in the world and create your own ideas and interpret the world as it suits you.
Wow I looked at how this blog evolved and am impressed right up to the end when it becomes more or less personal attacks. The blog has achieved its goal of sparking discussion. Name calling takes everyone away from the topic which is unfortunate. Whether you agree with Patrick or Tracy doesn’t matter. People get to see a point of view and if they are lucky, get pointed towards other pieces of information to research.
Do I think the post is racist? No, or I would not have forwarded it to Angela. The intent was to share something that I thought was funny with a friend knowing that we would talk a little bit about it. I know that Obama is not a practicing Muslim (overtly anyway). I am proud of how tolerant our country is on many fronts to include religion and race. That being said there are still some areas in need of progress.
The days of a non polarizing President seem so long ago. Our country is so diverse and the means of communication so numerous that opinions, falsehoods, and partial truths fly about like flies. Has that happened here?
I have had the pleasure of dealing with many people and have never measured someone’s worth or intelligence on how many pieces of paper they hold saying they are educated. Our country had smart men that founded it (without multiple degrees) and overcame much more than the people that try to run the country with multiple doctorates. Lord knows that the last 6 years in Iraq and Afghanistan have required me to do much more than my pay grade and education level.
Bravo to all for the earlier posts. You truly brought out what was good with this communications medium. Thanks for daring to post such a piece Angela. Its not a Mohammad like character in a cartoon thank God.
You people need to get a life. These pictures were funny…VERY FUNNY! People need to lighten up and view them foir what they are HUMOR. I have been posting on Angela’s blog since it started and eevn longer on her pervious blogs that were consolidated here.
I can attest to the following statements: She is NOT racist. She is NOT a hate monger. She is NOT trying to create problems. She is a GOOD HONEST PERSON who posted something she though (and correctly so, mind you) was FUNNY!!!
If you do not like what she posted, then DO NOT READ her blog. This is a free country with FREEDOM OF SPEECH!
BTW: If the liberal democrats and their supporters are so understand and tolerant, why are they worried about this.
Will Obama be sympathetic to the radical Islam causes if he gain the White House? IMHO and the humble opinion of many others: YES! HE WILL BE!!
The libs want to bring back the Fairness Doctrine because they cannot gain any headway in radio by forcing private industry to broadcast their views. Sort of sounds like intolerance to me.
In closing, good All American human beings in Texas do not trash people write or speak what they believe, whether is be a political commentary, news, comedy or humor. All of you who are condemning Angela need to have the GUTS to stand up before her IN PERSON and make your comments.
I would be willing to bet you would not be so vocal and hostile in said environment. You just might get you (please excuse my language, Angela) ASSES kicked.
“Now, you sons-a-bitches know how I feel.” General George S. Patton as portrayed by George C. Scott in the movie Patton.
PS: Angela, I do apology for my language, but here in Texas, we stand up against what is wrong and the idiots who spout it. Keep up your posts. People out here know what you are like in your heart.
Isn’t freedom of speech grand — unless its your ox being gored.
Racism? Those pictures aren’t racist. A picture of Condoleezza Rice dressed up like Aunt Jemima and referring to Colin Powell as Uncle Tom is racist.
Intolerance? Putting out a death threat for a cartoonist that dares to depict Mohammed or on Salman Rushdie for writing an unflattering book about Islam is intolerance. All the while Christians are expected to silently support anti-Christian art through the federally funded National Endowments of the Arts. And since we all have to be tolerant and inclusive, cities can ban nativity scenes while allowing crescents and menorahs during the Christmas, oh excuse me, Holiday season.
If you don’t like the humor, click on over to Daily Kos and find something more to your taste.
Wow! Isn’t it amazing the amount of hot air a group of pictures can generate. With that amount of hot air, we may have found our alternative energy source. I enjoyed reading the posts and as always, some contain good points and some not so good. All in all an interesting discussion on a Memorial Day weekend. It seems fitting that the sacrifices of our military has spawned this type of freedom of speech. Have nice weekend.
Wow! There’s absolutely nothing funny about this post. I’m deeply saddened that nobody seems to understand why this post is so offensive to those of us who have been on the wrong end of tasteless, insensitive jokes.
Divided, we will fail because a house divided cannot stand.
Sigh. Texas Truth, you really don’t back up what you say. In your recent comment, you say “good All American human beings in Texas do not trash people write or speak what they believe, whether is be a political commentary, news, comedy or humor.”
However, on your blog, you call me and others who find this posting offensive “the great unwashed ‘liberal’ masses.” Unwashed? This sounds like you are trashing liberals and going back on your word. Either that, or you are not a good person from Texas.
I never said that people cannot speak their minds. If I commented, it was because I had something to say. I totally support freedom of speech. I was just exercising my right. I support yours, and I was just voicing my opinion. I have no problem with you posting yours. I was just replying. If you found that hostile, I apologize.
I do not care about conservative radio. While I don’t like their message, they can say whatever they want. I don’t care because I don’t listen.
No one here has the same idea of what is offensive. There is no blanket label on what is offensive or not. People can find something ignorant, racist, or offensive while others find it suitable. Does that mean that either party has the moral right or authority over the other? No. It’s called an opinion. That is free speech.
Just because I (or others) have a liberal viewpoint doesn’t mean I’m ignorant or an idiot. We just have different ideas. Not everyone in America believes the same thing. That is our right. I believe everyone agrees with that.
I would also love to meet people from this site in person. I am not afraid to support my opinion and I would have nothing to fear. I am rational and calm, and I don’t think I would end up getting my ‘ass’ kicked (sorry for the language).
Patrick: You speak the same old rhetoric that has become the talking points of every liberal democrat (Yes, I do mean the great unwashed LIBERAL masses). Bottom line: Lay off the lady and her blog!! She is too nice to say so, but you have worn out your welcome here. Why don’t you start you own blog where anyone can come, read your views and take you to task on them. As far as you having a different opinion, you have that right, but you need to bone up on some manners and how you present them when your are in someone else’s house (blog). There is a way to disagree with someone that leaves them with their dignity and the sense that they have been respected even with the differences. That is why you would get your ass kicked down here in Texas (and anywhere else that has good, upstanding All American men live, regardless if they were conservative or liberal. You owe the lady a very sincere apology for your actions.
Its Patrick’s affected sighs that tip the scale for me, Texas. I can take a stupid idiot up to a point. There are so many of them, we all have to put up with a few every day. But those sissy sighs…
Speaking of my actions, I never cursed except to quote you. Look back at ptg’s posts for offensiveness. Look at your all bold post a few back, Texas. Those are offensive to Angela as well if you call mine crude. I never went to personal attacks until I had already been hit by several.
“Its Patrick’s affected sighs that tip the scale for me, Texas. I can take a stupid idiot up to a point. There are so many of them, we all have to put up with a few every day. But those sissy sighs…” - This is a perfect example of what you say I do, but you fail to look at yourselves. I can take your opinions and rhetoric, but I can’t take ad hominem arguments and personal insults.
Saying a post is ignorant (look to my first one on this comment list) did not mean that Angela is ignorant. I know she didn’t make these images. She thought they were funny when some one sent them to her. That is fine. I was voicing my opinion which does not agree.
If I owe an apology, then both ptg and Texas Truth do as well. Tell me how I have not treated her with dignity. Please, do. I fail to see that anywhere. Most of my earlier posts were with Tracy, anyway. How have my manners not been good? Please, show me where. I have apologized at times necessary where I replied to the wrong post. I don’t see how either of you two can back that up. I have already explained my actions.
I have never condemned Angela, despite what you say.
“Wow! Isn’t it amazing the amount of hot air a group of pictures can generate. With that amount of hot air, we may have found our alternative energy source.”
HA!!! Good one!! You’re a hoot, teacher!!
Well spoken!!
I’ve disagreed with alot of what Patrick has said here, simply because have different views and opinions on things. But I’ve found him to be a complete gentleman during this conversation and fail to find any reason for the nastiness being hurled in his direction.
Thank you very much, Tracy. You have been a very rational person in this post as well and I enjoyed our conversation. Your points made me think, and I learned a lot about and from your and other people’s viewpoints. I feel that sometimes I may have been a little too aggressive in this posting, and if people took me the wrong way, I am sorry.
This was a good discussion, though I wish it had remained on-topic.
Yes, let’s get back on topic and Yes, they are funny. Post more of them if you find any. In fact, if you find any more, send them to me and I will post them on my blog. They may be closer to fact than we all want to realize. Think about it.
I promise to post as many controversial photos that I think are funny as I can! Feel free (if you are reading) to send them to me and I am more than willing to oblige. My e-mail addy is angelaaa[at]cox[dot]net…
Forgive me if I can’t spell right now. I’m on my 3rd half glass of wine and my 4 year old is hanging on my left arm while the 2 year old is asking me, “where’d my juicy goed?”
I’m pretty ticked at my teen right now.. and according the weather bulletins from this morning we are supposed to get hit by tornadoes! I’m NOT looking forward to THAT at all!! I will tell you guys that the sky (and PTG will vouch for me on this) is BROWN. It’s not looking good. In fact.. I can smell fowl weather all the way from Texas!!
What do y’all have planned tonight? Me.. I’m getting in the shower before this crap hits with my little one so we can have a fresh kinda clean right before the electricity goes out. (And it will as I am predicting from the BROWN in the sky)
Jeff: I hope you are kidding. Obama will be the worse thing to happen to this country. Why do you think our enemies what him as President? Are you willing to bet your security that he will be able to handle the wackos of the world? For God’s sake, he couldn’t ever control Wright and can’t control his wife.
Happy to see this dialogue. Obama wrote about his *Muslim* childhood in Indonesia. See “Dreams From My Father,” his autobio. He may regret it now, But no one would have known about it, if he had not told it. And now he is trying to distance himself from his own account. Further, Odinga is Obama’s Kenyan cousin by his father’s side. Obama had enlisted Dick Morris’ help to create havoc in Kenya to defeat their President, Kbaki. They failed but many people were killed there as a result of their interference.
My latest article outlines Obama’s ultimate agenda for America and the world. Read it and search for info about /global ecovillages./ These are serious political times. And Americans, especially, need to be very aware of the dangers we face through Obama’s candidacy. Feel free to contact me anytime. I answer my mail. Thank you. God’s continued peace.

Becki | May 17, 2008 | Reply
I just thought I would get another perspective so I showed this to my husband (who just happens to be from Iraq) and he thought it was hilarious! So, I guess what is racist to some is just a funny joke to others - you can’t win with everyone, but here at my house the Arab thinks it’s a hoot.
ptg | May 18, 2008 | Reply
I’m laughing. For now. Who said “laugh before breakfast, cry before supper”?
Phil | May 18, 2008 | Reply
Becki,
While I appreciate the humour in the images, and yes they are quite funny, the implication here is that if Obama is elected president that he will impose Middle Eastern fallacies upon normal American activities.
Tracy | May 18, 2008 | Reply
I’m intrigued Phil– I WOULD understand your point if you thought that the pictures expressed religious intolerance towards Islam . But you said it expressed racism.
To me, the pictures represent a fear of radical Muslim ideals, (which personally, I believe is a legitimate concern), in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way. But I don’t see the “racism” you claim toward Obama being black. Where do you see racism?
Canuckguy | May 18, 2008 | Reply
Yeah Phil, lighten up. Tracy got it right. You are reading too much into this humour.
BTW, though Obama’s father is from Kenya, I believe he was Muslim. So if I am correct, there is a connection, however tenuous.
Phil | May 18, 2008 | Reply
*sigh*
Sherrie Sisk | May 18, 2008 | Reply
Gotta agree with Phil. Obama isn’t Muslim, yet many of the racist tirades leveled against him by rabid primary voters espouse this mistaken belief. So echoing that line is clearly playing on and supporting those mistaken beliefs - at least with the headline you have now.
Had you headlined it “what do they think’s gonna happen when Obama wins?” or something along those lines — now we’re in Comedy Central territory.
This is just distasteful.

Picky, picky, picky. Lighten up and cop a laugh.
You know how tired you get of hearing folks like me yammering on about how there is a Communist under every bed? Well, thats how tired folks are going to get of hearing you find a racist behind everything you don’t like.
No wonder the Soviets never smiled.

Patrick | May 19, 2008 | Reply
Tracy | May 20, 2008 | Reply
And Obama supported this guy.
Patrick | May 20, 2008 | Reply
Your website would not let me look at it.
This site says that Odinga is not a Muslim but claims to be Anglican:
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=2c8_1199824924
To me, Obama has the best platform.
angela | May 20, 2008 | Reply

I genuinely think it’s funny. The guy who sent it to me as a forward thought it was pretty funny too.
It’s not any different than something you might see on Comedy Central OR Saturday Night Live.
We need to be able to laugh at ourselves sometimes and not take things quite so seriously.

I am getting conflicted information from other sites. Odinga is supposed to be from the Luo, right? Most Luo people are Christians. Also, the Kenyan Muslims have denied the MOU stating that sharia law is going to be implemented:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7115387.stm
Patrick | May 20, 2008 | Reply

Patrick | May 21, 2008 | Reply

Here’s an interesting question.

Patrick | May 21, 2008 | Reply

Marxist thought stinks on ice.
Patrick | May 21, 2008 | Reply

I try to support them, and I guess you just like making insults.
ptg | May 21, 2008 | Reply
I’m glad you feel vindicated. I only attended three universities and two graduate schools for more than 10 years, and of my several degrees, I have a Bachelor’s in history. Keep telling it the way you see it. One day your vision will improve.
Patrick | May 21, 2008 | Reply

I’m not perfect. ptd = ptg
Though I doubt it would be impossible to tell I’m talking about someone else.

Hello Angela,

Texas Truth | May 27, 2008 | Reply

Patrick | May 28, 2008 | Reply

This is just sad… why perpetrate the myth that Obama is muslim? He’s more Christian than I am, for God’s sake! This is just plain stupid, not funny.
I hope, for all our sakes, that he does win. We’ll see that he believes in America, the Constitution, and our people more than Bush and Company.
Texas Truth | Jun 8, 2008 | Reply

1.) The one about Oprah
2.) The one about the “N” word
Thank you so much.
