Now you can subscribe to my wordpress comments

Tempus Fugit has a wordpress plug-in that lots of people seem to be happy with. It’s called “Subscribe to Comments 2.1” and it seems to be working for me now.
When I first downloaded and installed this plug-in I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to get it to work! I probably spent over an hour reading and then re-reading to see if I had missed something. I still could not figure it out.
When I had everything in place all I could see at the end of my wordpress blog threads was an empty check box with nothing next to it. I knew what the check box was for but didn’t understand why there weren’t any words next to it.
Yesterday I finally went back through and read a few of the comments and thank goodness people had gone back to the Subscribe to Comments 2.1 thread to add their little updates or I would have never figured it out.
Once you have everything in place and activated this is what you do:
1. On the admin side of your WordPress blog go to “OPTIONS”
2. Click on “OPTIONS”
3. Find “SUBSCRIBE TO COMMENTS” and click on THAT
4. Where it says “NOT SUBSCRIBED” I put this phrase in the blank box: Notify me when people leave comments - of course yours can say whatever you want it to say
5. Where it says “SUBSCRIBED” I put this phrase in the blank box: You are subscribed to Domestic Divapalooza comments - again yours can say whatever you want it to say
Once I got everything going and saved it, I logged out of my admin panel, and then went back to my blogs, clicked on a title and scrolled down to see if my blank box from before had words next to it - IT DID!!
The only other thing I wasn’t too sure about in the SUBSCRIBE TO COMMENTS under OPTIONS inside of the WordPress admin panel was what to do with the sections “From” name for notifications and “From” e-mail addresses for notifications.
What I wound up doing is putting the name of the blog and then a corresponding e-mail address for the blog. I’m not really sure if that is what I was supposed to put in those spaces so I guess I’ll have to wait and see what happens.
I’m sure people will either let me know what they did with theirs if they are using the same plug-in that I’m using OR I’ll figure it out through trial and error.
So… if you decide to use this particular comment plug-in for your wordpress blog and you need some help just come back and ask and I’ll do my best to help you!

I’ll get an e-mail if anyone comments here? I’ve checked the box.

I’ll have to test it myself.

Did it work?

It didn’t notify me of my own comment, but I just had an e-mail notice of your comment, angela. When I think about it, it was pretty stupid of me to think it would notify me of my own comment. Dang gadget is smarter than me!

Is it safe to assume that it all works properly?

I think so.

Awesome post - very helpful to me, as I just set up the subscribe to comments plugin and couldn’t figure out why there was just a blank check box and nothing else…
Thanks!

David,
I’m so glad you were able to figure it out and that my posting an update was helpful to you.
Be sure that you add your feedback to the thread that they have going so others will be able to find the solutions too.
(I know that thread will probably get quite long and some people won’t read through all of it)

Thanks for the help, I didn’t want to wade through 23 pages of comments either!
I also discovered that if you are in the options section for Subscribe To Comments, the obscure phrase about “Use [manager_link] to insert the URI to the Subscription Manager.” means that you can format a hyperlink using [manager_link] as the address (instead of an http:// etc link) and it will automatically allow you or your users to access and manage their subscriptions.
You make it a standard hyperlink with

Hi George,
Can you explain that one for me again one more time?
You lost me on that one.

It might be easier if you take a look at a post on my blog:

Notice the “manage” link after the “Subscribe to Comments” checkbox & text? That was done in the Sub to Comm Options.
You create a standard hyperlink, but the target is [manager_link] instead of an actual URL.
Hopefully that makes more sense now, I know it’s kind of confusing…

Oh yes, it is confusing me and my newbie geek brain. Is there a step-by-step instruction you could put together that I can follow?

I thought a screenshot might help…

I can’t find your screen shot. I’m sorry.

Let’s see if it worked this time, trying to insert a link here… seems it got deleted last time I posted a comment.
