Media Bias in Politics AND Criticism from Mommyville
Posted by Angela on 09/3/08 in Barack Obama, Dr. Laura, John McCain, Michelle Obama, Ramblings, Sarah Palin
Now if THAT isn’t media bias I don’t know what is!?
Is it safe to say that a magazine brand like US Weekly has it in for Sarah Palin?
On the front of one US Weekly issue you have:
Michelle Obama, Why Barack Loves Her: She shops at Target, loved Sex and the City and never misses the girls’ recitals. The untold romance between a down-to-earth mom and the man who calls her ‘my rock’
On the front of another US Weekly issue you have:
John McCain’s Vice President Sarah Palin, Babies - Lies & Scandal, under attack, admits daughter, 17, is pregnant, investigated for firing of sister’s ex-husband, mom of five: New embarrassing surprises
Yesterday I saw a piece written by Dr. Laura - Sarah Palin and Motherhood
I am extremely disappointed in the choice of Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidential candidate of the Republican Party. I will still vote for Senator McCain, because I am very concerned about having a fundamental leftist, especially one who is a marvelous orator, as President.
:: snip ::
I’m stunned - couldn’t the Republican Party find one competent female with adult children to run for Vice President with McCain? I realize his advisors probably didn’t want a “mature” woman, as the Democrats keep harping on his age. But really, what kind of role model is a woman whose fifth child was recently born with a serious issue, Down Syndrome, and then goes back to the job of Governor within days of the birth?
I am haunted by the family pictures of the Palins during political photo-ops, showing the eldest daughter, now pregnant with her own child, cuddling the family’s newborn. When Mom and Dad both work full-time (no matter how many folks get involved with the children), it becomes a somewhat chaotic situation. Certainly, if a child becomes ill and is rushed to the hospital, and you’re on the hotline with both Israel and Iran as nuclear tempers are flaring, where’s your attention going to be? Where should your attention be? Well, once you put your hand on the Bible and make that oath, your attention has to be with the government of the United States of America.
All I can say is WOW! At first I was stunned when I read what she wrote. Then I got mad because I’m sure the Palins love their children and would do anything for their kids. I guess what I want to know from Dr. Laura is what have all the other Presidential and Congressional families in the past done with their kids? Obviously these are special circumstances where the parents here have elected to serve their country AND still do everything that they can for their families.
Yes, I stay home with my girls and my husband travels for a living. In fact, he travels quite a bit and is not home as much as he would like to be OR as much as we (he and I) think she should be. But we are doing the best that we can. So because he travels sometimes weeks at a time to put food on the table and keep a roof over our heads… does that make him a bad Father? I certainly don’t think Sarah Palin is a bad Mom.
Today I saw a piece written on My Inner Bitsy - Is She a Bad Mom?
She is a Mom - yes, it’s true! Her family is dealing with a lot of stuff - teen pregnancy, and a child with special needs. This does NOT make her incapable of serving!
Is Obama incapable of being a good Dad to his two girls if he wins the Presidency? Is Michelle Obama to be ridiculed for being a working mother? Are you flipping kidding me!?!
:: snip ::
It is absolutely disgusting to turn and attack a person’s parenting skills in an effort to discredit them - disgusting. I don’t care if it is Palin, Obama, or anyone else - this is sick and I am disgusted by the media for carrying it on. People have families - they have children - they parent and they do their jobs. Some parents have to spend months and some years away from their children yet they are still parents - tell me, is that Mom serving in Iraq a bad Mom because she is away from her kids serving her country?
And let me tell you - there are some “moms” who stay home daily with their kids who are the crappiest parents out there. If you want to find something to discredit Sarah Palin with then make it about policy decisions and not about her family - same goes with Barack Obama and any other politician.
Lots of food for thought on those two blogs. You know, I enjoy listening to Dr. Laura and many times her advice to folks is spot on BUT sometimes… I get very irritated with her for being so stubborn at other times. This would be one of those times.
Back to the original topic of Media Bias
If you don’t believe it exists you are sorely wrong. The way to tell is to watch all the stations and listen to all the talk radio shows. But don’t just flip the stations for 1 day. Flip around and make an effort to listen and read everything you can get your hands on. Really do your home and research the facts. Stay away from conspiracy talk. If you do that for 1 season you will come back and probably agree with me that there is indeed lots of media bias going on.

It doesn’t sound like Dr. Laura is living in this decade - in fact, Dr. Laura’s attitude there is what is wrong with so many women in this country in my opinion - geez, and I’m not even a feminist!
I can’t even post all I want to say because I am so pissed over what she said…

It seems the common theme in the media attacks on her is “she appears to be running for VP in spite of being the mother of 5.”
It is my opinion this mother of 5 is running for VP BECAUSE she is a mother of 5!!!
Her children’s futures have too much at state for her not to use her GOD GIVEN ability to work out reform! She has proven herself, not only as a Mayor of a town in Alaska, but also as the CHIEF STATE EXECUTIVE being that she is the TOP CHIEF OF STATE for Alaska.
I think the media, as well as the dems in general, fear she can assist McCain in defeating B.O. simply because she has more executive experience in one of her little pinky fingers then Obama has in his entire being, family tree included.
Of course, this is only my opinion so I digress. The media has had a double standard when it comes to comparing McCain’s VP choice to the top of the ticket of the other side. They attack out of fear, knowing BO has been out maneuvered and any of the momentum he gained from that sorry excuse of a speech was reversed 12 hours later when McCain announced his choice for VP. People have more common sense then what the media gives them credit for and we will see this at the polls come November.
Let the media continue their attack on Palin. If they would research her a little more they would find out she fights more fierce then most men I know. Like I have said to several other people concerning her, she is a scrapper and I can’t wait to cast my vote for McCain/Palin!!

She nailed it last night. She understands what’s going on in Washington. She knows “what the will of the people” means. She’s AUTHENTIC and REAL.
