This is the first time a modern president has declared the United States to NOT be a Christian Nation.

The Liberals at the ACLU are LOVIN’ this one..eh? :]
Steven Crowder makes an AWESOME history teacher, doncha think?

Crowder is terrific. I’m actually glad Obama didn’t pretend to care about the day. The more clarity there is that he doesn’t really hold Christian views, the better.
From History America was founded by pilgrims fleeing from religious prosecution but we as Christians always seem to persecute people who do not hold the same exact religious views. Whether Christians believe it or not Muslims do worship the same God but they also have differences as well. Allah is the Muslim word for God. God taught us to love one another not hate each other based on religion. This is coming from a Catholic who does not judge people based on religion. America to me is a mixture of all religions not just the dominate Christian. To me to persecute others based on religion is no different that the Terrorists persecuting the Jews in Israel. Yes, America was founded on Christian values but those values include loving one another no matter the religion.
Persecution
Per`se*cu”tion\, n. [F. pers['e]cution, L. persecutio.]
1. The act or practice of persecuting; especially, the infliction of loss, pain, or death for adherence to a particular creed or mode of worship.
2. The state or condition of being persecuted. –Locke.
3. A carrying on; prosecution. [Obs.]
Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc.
Let’s understand this: Persecution is much more severe than disagreement with someone for their beliefs. For even loudly arguing with someone for their beliefs.
Persecution indicates an aggressive action to wipe someone out for their beliefs.
Say, for example, like the Romans to the early Christians.
The English church-state-denomination to the Pilgrims.
The Nazis to the Jews.
The Sunnis to the Shiites. (um, that one I don’t understand. they both believe in Allah, right??? oh wait, this would be something like a “state enforced denomination,” too, right?)
Steven Crowder = awesome!!!
Shannan, what “persecution” do you claim Christians are perpetrating upon other religions?
Although I agree with your point that America is a land filled with varying religions and that America was founded on Christian values which includes loving others of different faiths, I’m not sure I understand your PURPOSE in posting that in response to Angela’s post or to Crowder’s video. Neither one of them display any hate or persecution towards Muslims. In fact, the whole point of Crowder’s video is to bring attention to the persecution of CHRISTIANS by the ACLU, (in a tongue in cheek way) But no where in Angela’s comments or Crowder’s video is there any display of intolerance or hatred towards Muslims.
The pilgrims left a land where the government controlled the church. In America the church is to be free from oppression of the government. The government should not try to control the church and individuals should be able to speak about their personal beliefs. When the government restricts the speech of a church they are controlling the church. When they ask people to refrain from mentioning God in public, they are restricting an individual’s right to free speech. Whether a person is a school teacher, a preacher, or the president, they have the right to free speech. Governing from a Christian viewpoint is not the same as establishing a religion. The founding fathers prayed over our constitution. They established our laws on Christian values. Being a Christian is not just my religion. It affects every area of my life. I vote for Christians because I want people who have the same values I have running this country. Yes, I believe my values are the best values. If I did not think my values were the best, I would change my values. Other people are free to disagree that is what makes our country great, but as for me, I want leaders who have the courage to stand up for God in the public square, like those wonderful pilgrims who incorporated God in every aspect of their lives. Thank you for the fun video giving us a glimpse at American history.
It was response to the first comment. Maybe I should not have used the word persecution. I should have used judgement and intolerance. The point is America is a land of many faiths. Not just Christian. So all faiths should be recognized instead of left out.
I see your point Shannan. But we don’t really know exactly what Neil meant– personally, I agree with his assessment that Obama’s “brushing aside” of the National Day of Prayer DOES give some clarity. Many people (and I am one of them) believe wholeheartedly that Obama’s claim of Christianity is just a big lie to appeal to the masses since the majority of people in America are Christian. It’s pretty clear that the ONLY reason he joined Jeremiah Wright’s church is for politial purposes, to gain power in the black community of Chicago.
Like Laura, I too want those in authority to embrace the same values that I do. Simply wanting the president to be a Christian isn’t a mark of intolerance towards other faiths. It’s a preference for someone who embraces your own ideals of what it right and good. But for most people it isn’t a determining factor. For example– Bill Clinton is supposedly a Christian as well. But we know he’s a liar and a cheat. He also supports political issues that I believe are actually evil.
So just for argument’s sake– let’s say he was running again, and the person he was running against was NOT Christian, but was honest and faithful and did not support things I think are evil– I’d vote for THAT person, even though they aren’t Christian. And I think most other people would do the same.
My problem with Obama isn’t that he isn’t Christian, it’s that I believe he LIED about it and more importantly, I entirely disagree with his agenda. He says what he thinks he NEEDS to say in order to get power. If America was mostly a nation of bhuddists he would have claimed to be Bhuddist. And even if he WAS a Bhuddist, I wouldn’t discount him as a good choice for president as long as his values and stands on issues were similar to mine as a Christian. I’ll choose a faithful, honest, genuine, pro-family, pro-life, small government, constitution loving Bhuddist over a big government, pro-abortion, wishy-washy on the constitution, lying, self-proclaimed Christian any day.
And I think most Christians would say the same thing.
Do Muslims really worship the same God I do?
Of course we are supposed to love one another BUT I also recognize the following:
John 3:16-18
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
God’s one and only Son is Jesus.. right?
What do you think Christianity is Shannan? What is the definition of Christianity? Christianity is about the life and teachings of Jesus, is it not?
So tell me Shannan.. what do Catholics believe since you say you are Catholic. I thought Catholics believed in and worshiped Jesus.

That is a great post. I too can’t comprehend how people voted for Obama.. but not all “Christians” actually are Christians… the parable of the sower makes it pretty clear that only about 25% of those who hear the gospel will actually obtain salvation. Jesus tells us that not all who call him Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven. There are a lot of hypocrites out there and on the day of judgment they will be told “depart from me” It is sad. People don’t want to take the entire Bible into consideration – they pick and choose, but in that process they stop believing in the Jehovah God of the Bible and they start breaking the second commandment and creating their own god to suit their needs – they create in their minds what makes them feel comfortable. – Becki
I have some serious questions
Becki makes an excellent point..doesn’t she? People picking and choosing the parts of the bible to believe and ignoring the rest? It’s not enough to say that you are a believer if you don’t actually believe that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior…the King of All Kings…Lord of All Lords.
by their fruits ye shall know them…
