I received a very nice e-mail from one of the regulars wanting to compare workout and weightloss notes. (Hi Canuckguy!) I thought it would be fun to respond to that particular note right here on Domestic Divapalooza.
I do have a personal trainer and I absolutely adore her because #1 not only is she a nice person but #2 she really knows her stuff and #3 she is extremely encouraging and understands that I mean serious business with my weightloss plan.
I do have a thyroid issue and specifically hypothyroidism which has also been officially diagnosed as Hashimoto’s Disease which is an auto immune disease that requires I take medication to keep my levels under control for the rest of my life. Without my Synthroid the weight just slips right on without any eating efforts from me. That’s only one of they hypothyroid hurdles. So I do take Synthroid every single day before I eat my first meal.
My target weight is probably going to be in the 135lbs – 140lbs area. I’d also like to go from a size 16 to a size 8 eventually. I’m 5′6″ and I’ve been working out now for a couple of weeks. I started out at 177.1lbs and when I stepped on the scale the other day I was down to 173lbs. I am not longer in a 16 for some things but now in a 14.
The goal that I am reaching for is to have more endurance, more upper body strength, and some definition and toning in my arms, legs, abs, and butt areas. So yes, I do want to bulk up just a tad bit. Weight training and building of muscle is a must if you want to burn those calories quicker. That means when I workout out I’m doing cardio and then weight training and sometimes both in the same workout! I plan on making my exercise routine a healthy habit and eating write will be an addition to that habit so when I do reach my goal (and I will) it will NOT be difficult to maintain.
I was asked how was I going to find the time to do all of this between kids, errands, family time, blogging etc. It’s not a matter of finding the time it’s more a matter of prioritization and making time! The nice part about the family center that I belong to is that there is something to do for everybody in our family. Our gym membership is a family membership. When I am working out the little ones are in their play areas with kids their age. When I’m done working out we get together and do something fun as a family like swimming, etc.
My diet these days is going to be very controlled. I’m supposed to do something called “clean eating” and I am learning A LOT about food, portion control, and calories. I’m excited about ALL of it and can’t wait to share the end result with y’all!!

It can be done. I once lost almost half my weight, from over 300 lbs. to 160. It took 2 years, and I haven’t gotten anywhere near that heavy again. The program: eating less food and walking more.
I was ‘fat and happy’ for a number of years, until one hot day, after climbing very steep outdoor stairs in a jacket and tie under the blazing sun, a worried looking shopkeeper brought out a chair and and a drink for me. Then he asked me if I wanted an ambulance. I must have appeared to be dying. I decided to change my ways.
Good for you PTG!! I know that it could not have been very easy to go from 300 lbs down to 160. It sounds like the shop keeper asking you if you needed an ambulance was a key low point in your life. Sometimes we need those low points to sort of jump start that change. Good for you!!
Wow PTG – that is incredible weight loss! Angela you are doing so great too! I wish I could borrow some of your motivation! I had that same low-point happen to me and I totally agree that even though it can be depressing at the time it is a great “jump start”.
Angela, I’m the same height and about the same weight so it’s so much fun watching your progress! You are great motivation to get my butt out there and to workout :)
Thanks Deb!! I tell ya, I’ve enjoyed comparing notes and keeping track of everybody else’s progress.
My husband has even jumped in on the bandwagon of getting in shape. He is home this week so he is meeting his brother every day at the gym to work out before hitting the showers and actually going to work.
While I was on the elliptical this morning I caught a segment on the Today Show where they were talking about seven ladies that had lost about 1,000 lbs between them. They were discussing each of their “a-ha” moments.
I think we all have those “a-ha” moments which is what winds up helping us get our butts in gear!!
