Cervical cancer is caused by certain types of human papillomavirus, HPV. If you didn’t know, you’re not alone.

tellsomeoneDear Angela Stevens:

We’re glad you’ve requested this information. Not many people know about the connection of HPV to cervical cancer, abnormal cervical cells, and genital warts. Learning more about HPV could make a difference to your daughter’s health.

What you should know

The enclosed brochure tells the full story, but here are some important facts:

1. HPV usually has no signs or symptoms

2. Approximately 9.2 million young adults, 15 to 24 years of age, had genital HPV in 2000.

3. Of the more than 6 million new cases of genital HPV diagnosed each year in the United States, an estimated 74% occur in 15 to 24 year olds.

What you should do

After you get all the facts, tell every mom you know. You’ll be helping to protect someone from not knowing about HPV and its potential consequences. For more information, visit tell-someone.com.

We’re telling you because it’s important. Tell someone because you care.

Sincerely,

Beverly J. Jybrand

Vice President

*That’s a letter I received in the mail last week. I sent away for the information because I wanted to know more and I wanted to be armed with the facts. I think it’s important for all Moms of girls to know about HPV and cervical cancer. I don’t think that Mom’s should be afraid to get their girls vaccinated. Vaccines are a good thing - especially if they can prevent our daughters from getting cervical cancer.

You’ll probably notice that I am posting this information all over. That’s because the letter specifically told me that I should tell someone. What better way to tell someone than to tell millions by blogging the information. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get this information spread all over the internet, ok?

Talk about HPV and cervical cancer

Last I checked, neither of my boys tote ‘girl parts’ around. So no worries here. Thanks for the comment you left on my blog earlier!

    Hiya Toni! :)

No problem! I’ve got your blog in my newsreader and I always look forward to reading your stuff you know.

    Speaking of boys…

I’m currently in the process of trying to find out why they can not or do not test men for HPV and why men can’t be part of the HPV vaccine routine.

When I find out I will definitely be writing about it!
