Freedom. Freedom is gone. Healthcare is mandated by the Govt. now with the IRS to oversee it. Taxes are going up like no other. Unemployment is going up like no other. Businesses will lay off and let go like no other. We are about to become a suburb of China we are so far in debt. Billions. Trillions. I will NEVER EVER vote DEMOCRAT. EVER. Stupak – what a joke! He was only holding out to take one for his team. It’s all about the bribe you know. The rides on Air Force One. They want to help people but only if they can ask what’s in it for them. I want to help people too. We help people. We are the most generous country in the world. We are the first to arrive at the scene of those in need. I would have loved to have had the opportunity to be proud of a healthcare bill that wasn’t laced with fine print and special deals. They just passed a bill that 2/3 of this country is against. They just told their boss (We the People) to stuff it. They just told you and me that they know what’s best for us. Excuse me while I retreat into 24 hours of mourning for America. It’s a sad day when a person has to lie, cheat, and steal in the name of a really good cause for the purpose of controlling what 2/3 of the country did not approve of. We wanted health care issues resolved but not like this. I have learned a lot about my “friends” these last few weeks too. It’s good to know where I stand. Thank You.
If you are not outraged by what Democrats are attempting to do to our nation in the name of “health care” then you are not paying attention as my friend David so eloquently points out to people like Kathy posting in the comment section:
1) What health care bill are you looking at? I’m looking at this 2k page monstrosity that is going to be passed by a legislative trick some constitutional scholars call illegal.
2) Why are you supporting curing the effect and not the cause? The reason we need health insurance is because costs are too high. Why not look at why costs are so high? One of the primary reasons of high cost is lawsuits. Therefore, what is called tort reform. But, the Democrats don’t want to even touch tort reform because one of their biggest money sources is trial lawyers.
Another big expense is pharmaceuticals. Oh, surprise – big pharma happened to be one of Obama’s biggest contributors. Can’t touch them.
3) On top of all of this, even if single payer was in the bill – not everyone is covered still.
4) Another way to cut costs would be to allow insurance companies compete across state lines. You can buy your car insurance from Geiko, or State Farm, or Progressive who are based in other states, why not your health insurance? Oh, wait. Can’t do that, as that might introduce the most hated thing of all – capitalism – to the market.
5) We are being lied to about the cost of this. The figures provided to the CBO has been found to be only part of the cost. Much of the cost of this is right now being funded by a reduction in payouts to Medicare reimbursements. We already have one major drug store chain shutting down new Medicaid prescriptions in Washington state.
But, in order to get the AMA on board, in the summer it is already planned to revoke these provisions for doctors, specifically. That is $300 billion more right there that we’re being snowballed on, which puts the increase of the deficit by this bill by $200 billion.
Furthermore, the bill does not include any discretionary spending at all, to support the package though it is referenced heavily in the bill. That could balloon the cost of this dog of a bill by two to three times, easily.
6) Kathy, you come in here and attack us, saying as Christians we should support this, yet later come in when we challenge you and say you follow no one religion. One of the ten commandments is to put no other god before me, and another is to not worship graven images. Those that do are labeled as apostates or heretics. Christians are sick and tired of listening to such people try to tell them how to worship their religion – that’s why we have so many different denominations while Islam only has a few, and other religions none. You do not help your cause at all when you try that tactic.
I will also take your bet, for I believe historians will look back and say “Damn, if we only would have followed their advice, we wouldn’t be in the shape we are now.”
That’s what this year-long debate has come to: a handful of Democrats had been holding out to see the final bill.
Now we have it.
And anyone who was waiting to see what the final bill meant for government spending should vote no, because this bill spends even more.
Anyone waiting to see what the final bill meant for Medicare should vote no, because the Medicare cuts in this bill are even deeper than the Senate bill that Speaker Pelosi said Democrats didn’t want to vote on.
Anyone waiting to see what the final bill meant for taxes should vote no, because the tax increases in this bill are even higher than the original Senate bill.
Anyone waiting to see what the final bill did to the cost curve should vote against this bill, because this bill is likely to bend the cost curve even further than the Senate bill up, not down.
If you were waiting for a bill without the CLASS Act in it — a provision that even top Democrats describe as a Ponzi scheme, then you’ll vote against this bill, because it’s still in there.
If you were waiting to see if they’d cut out the sweetheart deals that have outraged the nation and soured the public on the entire legislative process, then you’d have to vote against this bill, because there are even more of them in there now.
If you were waiting for a bill that costs less, then you’ll vote against this bill, because it costs even more than the last one.
And if you were waiting for a bill that wouldn’t compel taxpayers to cover the cost of abortions, then you’ll vote against this bill because this is, the National Right to Life Committee says, the most abortion-expansive piece of legislation ever to reach the floor of the House of Representatives.
Americans are outraged at what’s going on here: a bill that aims to shift a major segment of our economy into the hands of the government, and which accomplishes that goal by imposing crushing burdens on already-struggling seniors, middle class families, and small businesses, is being rammed through Congress against the clear will of the public.
No amount of spin, no amount of spin, will change the fact that Medicare will be deeply cut, insurance premiums and taxes will go up, the federal bureaucracy will grow, and as demand increases, the quality of care in this country will get worse, and worse, and worse.
Taking a bill that House Democrats are too embarrassed to vote on, adding more than $50 billion in new taxes and slashing $60 billion more from our seniors’ Medicare and keeping sweetheart deals may make some Washington Democrats ‘giddy,’ but it’s not reform.
This bill isn’t an excuse to vote in favor of the Democrat plan for health care. It’s a reason to vote against it.
Anyone who votes for this bill is clearly less concerned about responding to their constituents than responding to the pressure tactics of Democratic leaders in Congress.
Some may have concluded that there’s more merit in following the cajoling voices in Washington than the clear voices, the very clear voices of their constituents back home, more merit in choosing to side with Democrat leaders in their quest to ram this bill through over the wishes of the American people.
Some may argue that the details we’ve seen since yesterday are reason to support it. But if anything is clear in this debate, it’s that yesterday’s CBO score is conclusive proof that this health care bill is completely unsalvageable.
This is something the American people realized a long time ago, and now they’re counting on the final holdouts to vote on their behalf this weekend. Now that they’ve seen the final bill, they can’t understand why anyone would do otherwise.
This bill is not about health care. These politicians have taken real life stories of suffering from real people and have wrapped them up with red tape, strings attached, and special deals for different states. The govt. attempting to mandate health care is beyond ridiculous! It goes against everything our founding fathers fought to preserve. All those states out there scrambling to protect their citizens from govt. mandates – Kudos!
The other day I watched with my own eyes Paul Ryan attempt to introduce a motion that would hold our govt. accountable for the money they cut from entitlement programs like Medicare. What the motion said in a basic way, is that if you cut money from an entitlement program like Medicare that govt. is responsible to use those funds to make that program fiscally sound first before attempting to throw those same dollars into a brand new entitlement program. Every single democrat voted NO. Why is it ok to run Medicare into the ground in the name of a new entitlement program? Does our govt. believe that they don’t owe us any explanations? Do they think they can just do whatever it is they want to with our money? Why is any of it ok?
Another motion was introduced the same day that basically said they were going to vote on whether or not Americans would have the right to choose their own healthcare. Every single Democrat on the panel voted NO. Why would they vote NO against something that the President of the United States himself promised when he was campaigning? He promised that if we like the healthcare that we have we could keep it. In a nutshell, he lied and every democrat that day voted NO against my right to be able to pick my own healthcare or to keep the plan that I have. In other words, they are trying to mandate healthcare onto the American People. This is something that a great majority, including myself, does not want!
I’d like to see pre-existing conditions go away. I’d like to see the life time cap disappear. I’d like to see people able to purchase a health insurance policy based on their needs. Open up state lines so we can be competitive! I do not want govt. controlling the entire healthcare industry. I don’t want the govt. telling me I can’t have a mammogram if I feel a lump in my breast today and want to have another mammogram tomorrow.
Let’s talk about abortion for a minute. Is it right for the government to force me to pay for your abortion? No, I don’t think so! Abortion is not birth control. Abortion is not healthcare. The way I see it, those that will suffer the most from this healthcare bill in its current form are the unborn and the elderly. Heaven forbid you are diagnosed terminal. What then?
Who’s going to pay for this nightmare of a bill? The CBO report came out today stating that it was going to cost $940 BILLION over the next 10 years. On top of that, democrats were rejoicing at the $940 BILLION dollar amount as if that was something we would be able to sustain!? Huh!? On top of that, they want this thing jammed through and it’s not supposed to kick in for another few years!? How does THAT work?? Then the CBO peeps came back again today and said that it was going to cut our deficit if taxes are implemented using their formulations, etc. COME ON. WAKE UP. Everybody knows that these are just ESTIMATES and that it’s really going to cost MORE than $940 BILLION. Everybody knows that it’s not going to reduce our deficit because our elected officials are NOT going to raise our taxes if we have anything to say about it. Our taxes are already SKY HIGH.
If this bill in the name of health care is passed, you can bet it’s going to face legal challenges for years to come, especially if it is mandated and forced on us. The govt. has never required anyone to buy goods or services. States are gearing up! They are ready to pass legislation that protects its citizens from being forced to carry something that they do not want.
They need to scrap this bill and go back to the drawing board. They need to bring up each problem one at a time and focus only on that problem. No special deals for states. No bribes. And no special rides on Air Force One on my dime thank-you-very-much! If this bill were strictly about health care and helping people in dire straits it would have passed last year. Unfortunately it is jam-packed full of all sorts of stuff to take our Liberty and Freedoms and toss them out the window.
If I were diagnosed with something terminal that was going to bankrupt my family I would prefer to have a grassroots fish fry fundraiser than to have the govt. step in and strip the rest of my countrymen of the basics: Liberty, Freedom & the ability to CHOOSE their own healthcare!
You know, it’s so ironic. This govt. wants to force me to pay for abortion – you know, take somebody’s right to LIFE away from them AND they want to strip me of the ability to receive quality healthcare. When did they change the idea of making healthcare more accessible to controlling all of it? I don’t understand what on earth they are doing!? And now the late breaking news is that the CBO has made a mistake about their previous cost estimate. Uh Hello!? Really!???
President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are attempting to ram their massive health care bill through Congress. They are pushing full steam ahead with their bill – which includes taxpayer funded abortions. We need to make certain our voices are heard in Washington. We must stop this bill.
C-SPAN3 LIVE STREAM – It’s what I have been watching A LOT of lately. You might want to keep that link handy and dig through the archives when you have a chance to. You can also watch stuff live as it’s happening. It’s what I did yesterday when I wasn’t feeling so hot, stuck on the couch.
I think the biggest thing that bugged me yesterday was that Paul Ryan was trying to get a motion voted on that would make our government responsible for the budget cuts to entitlement programs that they currently have going that seem to be going under.
For example: If you’re going to cut parts of medicare, instead of taking that money and pouring it into other programs they should be using that money to make the medicare program fiscally sound. All the Democrats voted NO on that one. It seems that they want to take the money and do whatever they want to with it and it doesn’t matter if the entitlement programs they are in charge of are falling apart.
The other thing that bugged me yesterday was when Republicans introduced a motion that would allow Americans to choose their own healthcare plan. Kinda like what Barack Obama was saying about how if we liked our healthcare we could keep it. Remember that? This motion that was presented stated Americans would be able to choose the healthcare plan they were interested in and healthcare would not be mandated by the Government. Democrats voted NO on that! That’s OUTRAGEOUS.
Every motion the Democrats introduced seemed to be presented with a personal story of suffering going on right now in this country. These stories are real. People are suffering because either they have a pre-existing condition and cannot get coverage, they have reached their lifetime cap of coverage, or they can’t afford to purchase a health insurance policy. It seemed to me every single motion that involved a personal story of suffering was followed-up and laced with red flags, sweetheart deals, red tape, and more bureaucratic crapola that has absolutely nothing to do with healthcare or helping these poor people that are suffering. It’s as if they are using the plight and misfortune of others and then lacing it up with the fine print to stick it to the rest of the country. Go Figure!
Now the state of Virginia has introduced legislation that says the Government will not mandate healthcare on it’s residents and 34 states are following suit and it’s a good thing Nebraska is one of them or we might have to move. Could you imagine being slapped with a fine OR having to do jail time because you did not want to participate in Government mandated healthcare?
It’s pretty crystal clear to me that this 2,000+ pages of blah blah blah… nah nah nah… and has nothing to do with healthcare and everything to do with furthering their agenda to take control of ALL OF IT. Could you imagine this nation having Government Mandated Healthcare? I DON’T THINK SO.
I had to go to the doctor today. My co-pay is only $15.00. The Government better stay off my co-pay and stay off the biz that employs my husband! I called for my appointment at 9:00 am and they told me I could come in at 10:10. Nice! No waiting lines! Government better back OFF my healthcare! All their “good” ideas are laced with strings attached. They are not trying to help people in need! They are trying to further their greed!
Here’s how the equation works: The Government = Greed + Selfish Ambition + Control = The end of our Liberty & Freedom!!!!!!! #tcot #sgp #rmln
On top of ruining the future for our children and our grandchildren, nobody wants to hold this president accountable for anything. At least with George Bush even his base was not afraid to call him out from under the carpet when he was wrong about spending.
Doesn’t it seem like much of the population was so content with this “hope and change” president that they voted for him and then decided they didn’t have to watch any more because they got what they wanted. It seems like nobody wants to critique or criticize the direction that we are on because they are too busy defending their vote.
So what? You voted for Barack Obama. Now get your head out of your butt and pay attention to what Obama is doing with your vote. Hold that man accountable and ask questions. Just because he is president doesn’t mean he has the right to run this nation into the ground.
If you gave somebody the keys to your vehicle so they could run an errand and they wrecked your vehicle would you just say to yourself, “oh well?” No! You would want to know who, what, when, where, why and how it all happened. Then you would probably want to know what they were going to do ti fix the problem. Then you might take measures to make sure they did what they said they were going to do. I think you would ask for your keys back too! No?
The health care reform bill passed by the Senate on Christmas Eve appears to be dead on arrival in the House, as six anti-abortion Democrats intend to join the ranks of lawmakers who plan to vote against the legislation.
SNIP
The Senate bill, however, doesn’t contain the same language as the Stupak amendment, which explicitly prohibits federal funding of abortion in any of the reform measures intended to expand health care coverage to millions of uninsured Americans.
SNIP
The House bill contains a ban on tax-funded abortion, which has been the law of the land for more than 30 years.
The Senate bill is a big change, say critics. It would require women to have a separate private insurance policy if they want abortion coverage, but contains no explicit ban on tax-funded abortion as the House bill does.
Six Anti-Abortion Democrats plan to vote NO. Well thank goodness for that. It’s nice to know there are Democrats out there that are Anti-Abortion.
When we talk about providing health care coverage to millions of uninsured Americans – what exactly does that mean? I thought the government’s role in this venture was to make it possible for people that aren’t able to carry health insurance a way to be seen by the doctor. But isn’t that what Medicaid through the Department of Health and Human Services is for? Why aren’t they enhancing those programs and opportunities?
I understand there are things that could run better in this country. Perhaps the health insurance policies offered by the companies we work for could offer a more competitive group rate? Maybe they could open up and allow us to purchase from companies in other states? Maybe insurance companies could offer price matching like they do at Walmart stores and Grocery stores across the nation? Yes, it would be nice to get rid of that nasty pre-existing condition clause.
Perhaps offering a cap on how sick you get is not the best idea. Oh and when I’m old, I want to be able to do what needs to be done to prolong my life no matter how expensive I am or did you just think that letting me die to save a buck or two would be A-OK?
In this world being young and old is a double edged sword. If you are too young to talk, walk and breath on your own you can be disposed of. If you are too old to talk, walk and breath on your own you are left to rot in assisted living. (Ok – so I’m not saying that assisted living is a bad thing. Assisted living can be a very good thing.) But really – how far would the government go to insure that the least of the least in society is cared for? Or would there be a price tag on the most basic of human needs?
And I thought we were already doing our best to care for those in need. We seem to be doing a pretty good job of that already considering all of the millions of residents that have blended well in our society who are not even United States Citizens. But even so – ordinary people are coming to their aid every single day without the government forcing us to do it. We do it because it’s what a Greater Being has called us to do. And it’s not even forced on us OR mandated in the way that the Government would like. We have free will. We get to pick.
Why does the Government want to cease control? Because the Government wants to control all of the dollars flowing into our pay checks, salaries, and bonuses. Our government knows we are the most generous citizens of our planet and the more we do what we need to on our own without their help – the more desperate they become. They want to infringe on our Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness. And yes, that extends to both the young and the old.
I do Not want the government running the whole enchilada. Sorry but I don’t trust them. Look at Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama. Do you trust them or do you trust God and what He says? No matter how you slice it trusting one or the other has eternal ramifications in the end. If you don’t believe in Jesus or God then our government’s experience in running these sorts of programs should be enough proof in the pudding to convince you that they do not know what’s best for us.
Tax-Funded Abortions
I don’t like it. I never have. If you want to have an abortion there are plenty of places that will provide that service for you without having to force me to pay for that service you picked. I don’t work so that I can line your pockets with death. That’s not how I roll.
Abortion is not health care. Abortion is not birth control.
Unless the life of the mother is at stake I don’t even see abortion as an option and even then isn’t it better to get down on your knees and pray?
Life should be the option.Life should be the choice. Adoption should be the option. Adoption should be the choice.
Decisions made in fear were never good for anyone. That’s why I get the stink eye every time I hear the government trying to convince me that this Obama-care is an emergency that we must pass right now. No! It’s not an emergency. You can go back and start over without all of the wheeling and dealing and trickery. Start from scratch, focus on real health care issues, and leave abortion out of it. If you want to provide a special insurance policy for those that think abortion is the answer to their problems – do it – but don’t make me pay for it if I don’t believe in it. That would be you forcing me to sin and that’s not cool in God’s book.
