Michelle Malkin has featured some letters that were written against the University’s invitation for Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers to speak at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
Reader Jon in Nebraska e-mails: “The University of Nebraska is already starting to lean towards the Ayers decision being a bad one. It is not a full out revolt, but I think enough people are against this, that the decision may well be overturned. We can only hope.”
The University should refrain from any activity that could be construed as an endorsement of any political candidate, either in terms of payment or use of facilities. Unlike other universities whose students have expressed their disapproval of a speaker by throwing pies in their face or disrupting their speeches, I support the airing of all points of view at an institution of higher learning. This man’s point of view as an educator may be valid and even interesting, but rewarding his past admitted atrocities and recent expression of his desire to “do more”, goes beyond a simple exchange of ideas.
I agree with that!
“While I believe that the open exchange of ideas and the principles of academic freedom are fundamental to a university, I also believe the decision to have Ayers on a program to celebrate the college’s Centennial represents remarkably poor judgment,” Milliken said in a statement.
“The University of Nebraska in no way condones Ayers’ past terrorist acts, which I consider reprehensible.”
I agree with that!
“As a native Nebraskan, and retired staff member of the UNL system, I am appalled at the decision of these people to invite William Ayers to speak, although “the University will not expend its own funds.” It’s amazing the chutzpah of these people. This is a free country and everyone has a right to their opinions, but since when do we give a public speaking opportunity to an avowed terrorist, who except for technicalities should be in jail, along with his lovely Bernadine.”
I agree with that!
Obama can claim he was 8 when Ayers was a terrorist, but cannot use the defense when Ayers stood on the US flag in 2001. I find the picture speaks everything wrong with the left.
I agree with that too!
The event in Lincoln Nebraska is scheduled to take place on November 15th.
Here’s an update for you guys:
Bill Ayers and the University of Nebraska
Looks like he’s not going to come after all. Thank God!
Could you imagine the leader of the same group that caused so much damage to so many peoples lives being able to come and speak to the youth of today?
It’s bad enough that he says that he wishes he could of done more. It’s horrible that he steps on the American Flag and let’s people take pictures of it.
These are the type of people that we want teaching our children? Do as I say but make sure that you do more than I did? I don’t think so. I don’t care how educated he is who who his friends are. I don’t want him anywhere near our kids. We certainly don’t need him to help Nebraskans celebrate 100 years of teaching either.
Bill Ayers at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln – CANCELED

I got a degree from UNL. They have written to me several times a month in the 27 years since asking for money. Once in a while, I send them a few bucks. If Ayers speaks, the money stops. Totally. I did the same thing to Iowa State after they had Jane Fonda speak; she spoke, I haven’t sent them a cent.
UNL professor and blogger Gerard Harbison is really upset. He says to UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman, who defended the Aters invitation by saying politics shouldn’t decide who speaks at UNL and who doesn’t, “Hey Harvey, it’s not the politics, it’s the nail-bombs“.
I agree with that, too!
PTG, I’m going to add Gerard Harbison’s blog to my Nebraska section right here on Domestic Divapalooza. It’s nice to meet another Nebraska blogger. I will most definitely check out what he wrote.
In the meantime I have a post coming up (just to let you know) tomorrow around noon that talks about “Joe the Plumber” being on Mike Huckabee’s show tomorrow night with dates and times so you can check that out before you decide if you want to go into town tomorrow or Sunday, etc.
My daughter just applied to University of Nebraska in Omaha. It’s frustrating to know that university faculty are capable of making such poor choices.
did you see the Op Ed in the O-W-Harold from that nutty professor on Oct 21st?
maybe its Gerard Harbison?
I can’t seem to find anything online… wish I could find my legacy (print) copy!
its kind of outrageous.

This Right Wing Professor?
Going to read that link you just shared right now.
Uh yeah, a former radical that regrets not having done enough! I don’t think so! A former radical that loves getting his picture taken standing on our flag. I don’t think so!
To be honest I don’t know who the OpEd was written by. I’ll have to go to the library and get a copy so that I can accurately report what was said.
I can’t remember because I was eating the hot wings at Wing Stop, reading the paper, playing with my DS and while trying to watch news highlights.
My apologies Gerard Harbison.. This Right Wing Professor?.
Till I can verify who wrote the OpEd.
Oh ok. BTW, I have the Right Wing Professor link in my side bar. Cool Beans.
