173 lbs starts my weekly workout
Posted by angela on 03/10/08 in Domestic Ramblings

That’s where I’m at today. I can’t seem to get out of the 170’s. I snapped that pic after my two cups of coffee, I had clothes on (well sorta), and I’m not sure how much my camera weighs. But that’s ok, I’m not going to really pay attention to those factors. I’m just going to weigh myself on Monday mornings no matter where I’m at with my routine.
Today we are going to the gym after Lauren gets home from school. I’m going to go to the gym every day if it kills me. I’m also going to do some walking every day on my treadmill whether I go to the gym or not. If I don’t make the gym for whatever reasons have a tendency to come up, then I will walk/run on my treadmill for 1 hour on that day!
I have A LOT to accomplish this week. I leave early Friday morning for Jamaica so I have a lot to do outside of working out. I have to deep clean my house, pack my duffel bag for the trip, and run the usual errands that I need to run before I leave. That means I will be setting up my blog posts and set them to post while I’m gone.
Gayla of Not Before Coffee will be in charge of all my blogs while I’m gone. She’ll be approving posts, deleting spammers, and if we’re really lucky.. she might even put up a post while I’m away. Hooray! Be NICE to her while I’m gone. If you’re not nice to her that will make me very unhappy because she’s a good friend of mine.

I don’t hold much truck with exercise as a weight loss technique. Not to say that exercise isn’t really beneficial, it is very important to overall health. It just won’t melt off pounds as advertised.
As a weight-loss success myself, having lost half my body weight (150 out of 300+ lbs.) in less than two years and kept it off for 15 years, I think I know what works best.
That would be hunger. Make hunger your friend. Hunger is the message your body sends you when caloric output exceeds caloric input. Its your flesh telling you to eat or else you will waste away and die. Wrong! The flesh seems able to add and subtract, but it can’t reason worth a darn.
Your brain, however, is smarter than the rest of you. The brain can decide whether you are really in danger of wasting away or not. The brain can be disciplined to reinterpret this ‘wasting’ message as an ‘I’m making progress’ message. Mind over matter, as it were.
I didn’t do any extra exercises, nor change what I ate and drank. This includes the quart of whiskey a day that was part of my caloric input those days. I just tried to cut my portions by half at every meal.
For many months I left the table hungry. As I approached my desired weight, the unpleasant aspects of this sensation gave way to the great feeling of lightness that resulted from not having to lug 100+ lbs. everywhere I went.
We lose weight by eating less food. Its that simple.

Watching what you eat is definitely the key to losing weight. You also have to cut your portions in half OR (if you do it like me) resolve to only putting a scoop of this and a scoop of that in your plate. (scoops being about 1 cup each) Not very filling but if you drink a glass of milk to top it off not only does it do your body good but it gives you that full feeling.
For me, not only to I want to lose weight but I want to re-shape my body back down to how it can look. I want get rid of the fat and have some toned up muscle. I do want a chiseled effect but I don’t want to look like I’m on steroids.

That “full feeling” is your enemy when trying to lose weight. Try calling hunger pangs ‘weight-loss twinges’. Get into feeling ‘not-full’. Mind over matter!
Good luck getting chiseled! Have a safe and fun trip to Jamaica. Watch out for the crazy rasta-men.

I’m a bit late checking in here. You’re already in Jamaica, you lucky girl!!! Way to find a focus on what you what to do. Despite the busy schedule and other things going on in life, making exercise and healthy eating a priority are essential. You’ll find that you have more energy and feel stronger in everything you do. I look forward to seeing how the trip goes and what a great time you had.
